We do have it easy today. That PS2/50 cost me $4500, which was (and still is) a lot of bucks in '82.

The frustrating old days, anyway. I bought an HP TouchSmart not long ago for 600 bucks. I did load linux on it. But it's basically a flat screen with a wireless mouse and keyboard and processors that move fast enough for me. Much easier than keying in octal commands to load a paper tape boot loader.
And it doesn't require adding structure to the foundation of the house.
