I keep hearing statements about how expensive it is to prep. Although it is not cheap it doesn’t have to be that expensive either. You do not need to stock 20 years worth of food to be properly prepared. As a matter of fact I would advise against it. Stockpiling a large food and water supply means you have to stay put and defend it. That may not be your best option in a lot of scenarios which means you would lose that investment. Do you think you really have enough ammo to defend a 20 year food supply for 20 years? The cost of that alone would be staggering.
One big mistake in prepping that most people make including me is waste when you first start out. Either buying the wrong things (toys and gimmicks) or finding out later as you become more experienced that a lot of the things you bought in the beginning you really do not need.

I do not assume most or even more than a few will go to the dark side, but those that do are significantly more deadly than the average joe with a handgun or scoped rifle. In a shithitsthefan world former military are going to be the best assest a group has as defenders and protectors, which are a valuable skill set to posses. The oldest profession is Soldiering and we all know the second oldest ;)

You are 100% right never ever approach a conscious wounded human who was just moments before intent on killing you. That is exactly why I said bayonet them you still have a hot round ready at point blank range to the head should they attempt to fight if they move pull the trigger. As for the axe we carried all steel tomahawks 18 inches long with an edged side and a 6 inch spire side. It is truly surprising how many different things can be done with a tomahawk. They also would be perfect for dispatching semi-conscious point side to the small of the back of the head. IF you need intel then have some MP trained guys around they have all be through EPW training..a blowtorch and some pliers will get you all the intel any one needs. We were not implicitly authorized to have Ruger Mark 4s but they sure do make a good sentry dispatch weapon when suppressed at point blank range.
There is some threat from people taking your crops from you but the biggest threat is from the non-bipeds. If everything goes kaboom you are not going to have the cumulative benefit of insect and pest control that you do now.
There are somethings that you can store for a long time and are necessary. Salt is one of those things. It is cheap, it lasts and you will need a lot of it. Also be sure to store some iodized salt. Iodine is not a mineral found in many places except sea food and plants and it is one we need very badly. It can mean the difference between the next generation being normal and being sub normal.
I have to agree. The immediate need is to survive through the immediate threats to a point in time where things begin to settle out. Growing your food is a long term effort of surviving, adn you better have lotsa land and protection for the crops. But if you stock freeze dried food or the like for 1-2 years, you will then have time for this “hobby”. And who the hell cares about canned tomato sauce. Come on!

Unnamed person/country told me that they have rarely had to come in more than 3-4 times before the subject is spilling his guts without any questions. Rarely, 1 in a 100, they say, they barely get into the double digits, mind you hours into the ordeal with the time in between used to mentally torment the subject as to what is coming next.

Second is in South America: they use "insect torture" that includes various scorpions, bees, ants, etc. that they use to get confessions. I was told that there is some sort of wasp in the jungle that's sting is so painful that one sting and most subjects are screaming their life out.....and the prospect of a 2nd sting will usually get you any intel you need. ....again....not visiting certain South American countries anytime soon.
If I need to get intel, I'll rely on strapping the offenders down on a fire ant mound while I "feed my catfish".

I perusing this thread, one thought occurred to me - given the way wolves/bears have been reintroduced, a coup-de-grace might be more merciful than leaving the zombies wounded, bleeding, and screaming in pain, as dark approaches...
I agree with you. Long as you leave one alive to scream in all the local scavengers to the buffet.
