SHTF Planning: 20 Lessons from the Streets of Cairo
SHTF Plan ^ | 2/1/12 | Mac Slavo

Posted on 02/01/2012 9:18:43 PM PST by Kartographer

From the somewhat guilt filled comforts of Greece, I have been thinking about what I learned from the recent Cairo SHTF experience. I am not putting myself forth as an expert of any sort and, frankly, many or even most items on the list below might be flat out wrong….who the hell knows. We were in Cairo from Jan 25th until late Feb 3rd when the neighborhood gunfire became full-auto and regularly occurring. At that point, we decided that Friday prayers (the next day) might not yield a pleasant experience. We had no way of knowing that we had already seen the worst.

As a conservative, and long, long, long, long time prepper, I will try to contribute to it remaining family friendly, in it’s formal writings and on it’s public face.

This new shit movement renaming, is bizarre, and lefty, not conservative.

ansel12, you might rather enjoy being a sheepdog, but you forget. WE are not sheep to be herded by you or anyone else. Should the wolves come, they will find that we are not ss docile and stupid as you seem to think we should be.
A WAR, any war, cultural or otherwise, does not depend on the words you use, but the skills and wit you possess. For this reason, we hone our skills and map out contingencies and strategies because, my FRiend, SHIT HAPPENS.
That is just the way it is.

I can’t see how someone can come to the conclusion that it’s part of some sort of “liberal agenda”.

I’m inching up on 60 years old, and have heard that expression as long as I can remember. From all kinds, farmers, military people, technicians, you name it.

And it’s pretty much a standard in the prepper community, everybody knows what “shtf” means, just like back 12 years or so ago, everybody knew what Y2K means.

Well, if it happens, and the complaining poster shows up at my door, he MIGHT get, emphasize MIGHT, one DAMN CAN OF BAKED BEANS.

On second thought, maybe not...

;-)

In other words, implement civil defense, as Americans have done since the war of 1812.

Way, way, off base, from not wanting to rename the movement shit.

How do you think that we got along for so many decades using normal language in our publications and public discourse in the survival movement, do you really think that naming our selves swear words makes us more manly, or macho, to use the liberal type wording for masculinity.

Why all of a sudden is this punk kid thing, (look at me daddy, I’m using bad language!!!, tough man language!!!, he-man talk!!!) taking over this very old preparation movement, and being so fiercely pushed by some here as though it is a cause in itself?

“I can’t see how someone can come to the conclusion that it’s part of some sort of ‘liberal agenda’.”

It is the logical extension from someone who perceives people as sheep. With that philosophy as a life guide, people are herd animals to be tended by the trusty sheepdog and kept in their pens and on their ranges...fed and led, not feeding and leading. And THAT is the liberal mindset. The pity is, he doesn’t even realize it.

I recall years ago, a specialist in old English gave a short lecture/interpretation of Shakespeare.

Turns out about every other paragraph he wrote had some kind of VERY spicy interpretation back then, and a good amount of it would have been considered obscene!

What party animals those Victorians were! We never knew!

You’re the one who has tried to make a cause out of it. You are acting as if the term in SIMPLY to swear, and I submit to you that it is to create a VISUAL so strong that it cannot be ignored. It is the creation of a picture and ONE indelible graphic image is worth a thousand NON swearwords. Trust me.

I mean, can you imagine saying “when number two hits the fan”? That is a comical and childish image that doesn’t have nearly the impact.

A rich man indeed... That’a’way Clarence ;)
Sometimes we may forget to say thank you or issue praise when it’s due, but that’s just because with FRiends we often already just know and words are merely redundant. Keep fighting the good fight Kart.

It is a culture war, choose which side you will devote your energy to defending and advancing.

Spoken like a true "Zumbo."

You really have never read materials from the first 30 or 40 years of this movement when it was mostly male and largely ex-military?

You won’t see this kind of childish writing in those older publications, it was adult to adult, this is teenage childish stuff.

Your long interest in the subject is utterly irrelevant. Do you imagine it somehow gives you greater authority to pontificate on what is, at its base, only your opinion and personal preference?

Are you going to suggest only males or ex-military (as if THEY never uttered a vulgarity) are fit to comment, next?

Why would any conservative be pushing to mainstream into the culture, swear words, to be fighting for it, to be vehemently raging for it, to get angry when someone says let’s discourage this practice before it is too late?

What is the problem with steering writers away from changing this into the “Shit Hit the Fan Movement”?

What is the obsession with fighting for that change , why do you desire it so?

Why do you insist on mischaracterizing those who disagree with you?

It is disingenuous, at best, to claim the terminology is being “pushed” rather than simply acknowledged, by conservatives.

You don't like it. We get that. But don't kid yourself into believing you're doing anything more noble than trying to shame others into admiring your rectitude. The terminology has become a colloquialism. It's not going to change. You might as well rail against “Columbus discovered America” though everyone knows he found people here.

You are fighting for this, if you wanted to stop it, then you would agree with post 43 or some variation of it.

How can a conservative be fighting so hard to keep this name change going?

Why would any conservative, or any adult, want the survival movement to be known as the Shit hit the Fan movement?

Why would any conservative think that this article is perfect and could not be improved by using adult language. Why would a conservative be pushing to make things worse?

Why aren’t conservatives joining in to see what we can do about this?

Whoa! Anse112. You just spelled out the “S” word. Why would you be criticizing anyone using a mere acronym, when you spell out the actual word? If you know what the “S” in “SHTF” means, then I would think it isn’t really hurting your psyche enough to flame Kartographer. Whether you or I like it, it’s become common vernacular and I’m sure Kartographer didn’t create it.
