I’ve still got a ‘dumb’ phone, and it’s too smart for me.

And,,, “Triple Lutz?”
When I was in middle school, we had a janitor named Lutz. One day he slipped on something, and had a spectacular fall. Wasn’t hurt, but half the school saw it. Falls where thereafter called “Lutzes.” And there were Double, and Triple Lutz falls.

Why does Carrier IQ reside on hundreds of millions of phones. Who is responsible for this? That is hard to say with Android phones since the carriers can modify the OS.
With Apple, the carriers are not allowed to tamper with the hardware/software, so it is clear that Carrier IQ came from Apple Corporate and probably resides in all iPads as well.

This Media Scare Story is the stupidest one yet. "The carriers know what keys you typed!" If you are surprised by this, then you must have thought that cell phones work by magic.
A little common sense here, people. The Phone Company (which is what these carriers are) is going to know what numbers you dialed, what was in the text messages you sent, and they could probably even listen in to your phone calls if they wanted. That doesn't require "spyware" in your phone, it falls out for free just from them being the phone company. It has been this way since Alexander Graham Bell's day. This is just the media peddling crap to sell papers and generate ad clicks. |
