Meghan McCain: Newt Gingrich is ‘sexist,’ ‘disgusting’

MSNBC has a new addition to its staff — Sen. John McCain’s daughter, Meghan McCain.

On his Wednesday program, MSNBC host Thomas Roberts introduced McCain and asked her to address her back-and-forth with presidential candidate and former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich.

“Can you believe that?” McCain asked. “Former Speaker of the House I’m getting in fights with, I can’t believe it.”

In a specific incident addressing some remarks McCain made about his presidential bid, Gingrich said, “How would she have a clue?”

“I think he’s delusional,” McCain said. “And him calling me clueless I think is so sexist and disgusting and lame and a really offhanded remark … that he’s making towards me. And I think it’s ridiculous. Any polls that he’s reading, if you were seriously running for president, you wouldn’t be taking vacations to Greece during the middle of your campaign trail. I think he has a lot of other issues that all of us are very well aware of. And I would bet my career he’s not going to be our next nominee.”

Letterman is the same as every other comedian who dips into politics for material: It made him lazy. Initially he could get a cheap laugh with an observation that the audience believed to be true and he was hip, maybe even edgy. It worked, because he was incorporating it into a routine that had him doing all sorts of things that no one else was doing, like bringing inappropriate people out for an interview, or throwing watermelons off of roof tops. Fifteen years later, people are sick of the watermelons, and him adjusting his colar, and all he’s got left (no pun intended) are the same tired Palin/Cheney/Trump schtick. A good sign of this type of comedian’s true effectiveness is the applause vs. laughter ration. It is hard to force a laugh sitting in an audience for an hour. Big swinging dicks like Letterman have people who are actually funny open for them and warm up the crowd before the show, but that only goes so far. The liberals in the audience agree with everything he’s saying, but its not really funny, so they get tired of forcing a laugh. The solution is to clap instead, to be polite (and so you can’t hear crickets chirping). Plus there are huge “APPLAUSE” signs you can’t see on TV. Next time you do watch Letterman, listen to how many of his lame political jokes still get a laugh. Especially as the program moves into the second half hour.

I think he’s been executing a smart strategy so far. He knows that the conservative candidates with “tea party appeal” have to duke it out and destroy each other in order to have the support to take on Romney. He also knows that, in the process, they are likely to damage each other enough that none of them will be able to emerge unscathed. He’s been generally keeping out of that fight, looking good in the debates, and hoping that, at the end of the day, he is seen as the last hope to stop Romney.

The longer this drags on, the closer we get to the moment where the press actually hits him with the supposed "scandal" that ended his first marriage, and the Congressional ethics sanctions (which will ending up sounding very familiar to Palinites). The msm, and even the conservative media has been alluding to them for years now, but even the majority on this website don't seem to know the true stories. So when we get to that moment, and Newt gets to explain himself, I have a feeling that virtually all of the non-liberal electorate is going to say "That's it???," and move on to selecting the man most qualified to right the economy, fix a broken congress, restore America to its rightful place in the world, and kick Obama's ass in a debate. And that is exactly what will happen unless we allow inconsequential political differences and litmus tests to default us into another establishment candidate.
