OK, i wanna share with you my own experience. (be patient with my English, i am from far away ) I am from Bosnia, and as some of you may know it was hell here from 92-95, anyway, for 1 whole year i lived and survived in a city of 50 000- 60 000 residents WITHOUT: electricity, fuel, running water, real food distribution, or distribution of any goods, or any kind of organized law or government. The city was surrounded for 1 year and in that city actually it was SHTF situation. (SNIP) Some of us was better prepared, but most of families had food for couple of days, some of us had pistol, few owned AK-47 when all started.

Anyway, after one month or two, gangs started with their nasty job, hospital looked like butchery, police force vanished, 80 percent of hospital staff gone home. I was lucky, my family was big in that time (15 members in one big house, 5-6 pistols, 3 Kalashnikov s) so we lived and survived, most of us. (SNIP) After three months rumors started abouth first deaths from starvation, deaths from low temperatures, we stripped every door , window frame from abandoned houses for heating, i burned all my own furniture for heating, lot of people died from diseases, mostly from bad water (two of my family members), we used rain water for drink, several times i ate pigeons, once i ate rat. Money did not worth sh..

we traded things, black market worked, few examples: for 1 corned beef can you could have woman for couple of hours(sounds bad, but it was reality) i remember, most of that womans were just desperate mothers, candles, lighters, antibiotics, fuel, batteries, rifle ammo and of course food, we fight like animals for that.

Because if you don’t, I’m “armed” with diarrhea. ;-)

Vienna Sausages are okay with crackers or as a sandwich on bread, uncooked. Especially the BBQ flavor.

Of course I also like SPAM, potted meat (with mayo) and Deviled Ham.

heh

Antibiotics have a limited shelf life.———\

Studies done with our military prove, they last much longer than stated. Some 5 years, some 10 beyond ‘stated’ expiration date. Do research.

And most only lose ‘some’ potentcy beyond that. Say have 90% strength instead of 100%...

Do research.

‘except for tetracycline which will go toxic if stored too long....okay, scratch that one from the list’-—

that was based on ONE complaint, and newer tetracycline has different carrier, so no longer true...

Do research.

"What are you going to keep them in? "

I have them in a big black trash bag in my shed.

But now, I've also bought canning jars and many plastic storage containers with removeable tops.

"You can get medical books on Amazon pretty cheap. I bought a nurses guide and a physicians desk reference. Both very good."

I've accidently discovered a good place for this sort of stuff...and, some medical supplies too.

Go to garage sales around the major hospitals. All sorts of medical books and supplies for sale.

From what I’ve read it wasn’t the actual drug that went bad but the binder. However up thread is a link to a article written by an MD on this subject. its a good article and worth reading.

FYI, you’d be happier with a good supply of chocolate. Only thing is chocolate doesn’t have a long stable shelf life. Although, you guys might want to check into the shelf life of chocolate syrup. That should do the trick.

Thanks SO MUCH. Great information to be found on that thread.

This quote from the original poster is quite profound:

“Oh yes it changed my perspective on life, i know now that bad things can happens, and on more important thing, actually i believe it is most important: I don’t anymore believe government and authority, not at all. When they really doing their best to assure you that everything going to be fine, you can be sure that something bad is happening.”

Peanut butter has oil in it that will turn rancid. Don’t stock so much you can’t rotate it out every two years.
