What format are you converting to pdf.
To: Dubya-M-DeesWent2SyriaStupid!
I use Primo pdf. Anything that you can print can be converted to a pdf.

OpenOffice or LibreOffice both do it with a mere menu click.

Adobe Reader has a “Save As” option that let’s you save a file as plain (ASCII) text. My guess is that you can do just about anything with it once it’s in ASCII.

OpenOffice can do it, and it’s free.

Irfanview [freeware] can save ‘graphics’ into PDFs.
doPDF and similar products [many freeware] use your computer printing function to ‘print’ an application file as a PDF.

It depends on your FROM/TO formats.

If you’re trying to convert a PDF doc into an editable doc (for Word or some other program), you could try the ABBYY PDF Transformer. It’s available on line (http://pdftransformer.abbyy.com/) and while it’s not free, there’s an evaluation period that would solve your problems right now and give you a chance to see if you like it.
It works beautifully and gives you editable documents even when the original text quality is not very good. And of course, you can also use it to create PDFs.

To convert TO a PDF there are a lot that act like print spoolers and you add it like a printer.
To convert FROM a PDF the select all copy paste works unless it is protected.
Other than that you’ll probably Pay $$$.

I have a question: I don’t want to spend $ for their ‘stapler” - I need free program that puts single pdf’s into
series (’stapled’)-anyone?

There’s a million of them at Download.com and TuCows. I use PDF Redirect. Most of the free ones install as printers, so you “print” your document to it and a PDF comes out the other side.

go to
www.cutepdf.com and download cutepdf writer. It is a great program and it is free. I have used it for years. I like it better than the pdf writer in Acrobat Standard.

Any time I quickly want a good, free program I check out sourceforge.net
It is home to tons of open source software and it has a search function for finding what you need. There are also reviews of previous downloaders for each choice.

What do you mean by “converter?” Do you mean you want to be able to save documents to pdf?
If that’s the case, I’m a fan of Pdf Redirect v2, which is basically a a printer driver that prints to pdf files, so it works with any Windows app.
