(API Herford Station, Iowa) To clamorous crowds of government-hating Tea Partiers, Rick Perry pledged to blow up Hoover Dam if elected president.
He also removed any doubt about whether he was packing heat by shooting out a chandelier in the ball room where he held his post-rally press conference. When confronted by horrified reporters, most still cowering under tables, he replied that the offending light fixture looked too French, as he calmly tucked the Smith & Wesson Model 500 back inside his jacket.Brilliant conservative commentator Jeff Jacoby then stood up and efficiently batted down the liberal conservatives hate government meme:
A disheveled CNN reporter with a visible wet spot covering his crotch indignantly challenged the Texas governors hostility to all things government. Why do you hate welfare babies and infrastructure? You just want to blow up government!
Yeah, replied Perry, eyes narrowing to slits, and yall dont even want to know what I got planned for that yapping pack of French Poodles yall call the press corpse.
Governor Perry wrapped up the press conference by forcibly baptizing a crying msnbc reporter in a bucket of Jack Daniels while loudly shouting, praise Jesus!
But it isnt highways or veterans programs or minority voting rights that conservatives find so objectionable about Washington. When Perry speaks of making the nations capital inconsequential, he isnt proposing to dismantle the Hoover Dam. Hard as it may be for liberals to accept, the Republican base isnt motivated by blind loathing of the federal government, or by a nihilistic urge to wipe out the good that Washington has accomplished.
What conservatives believe, rather, is what Americas Founders believed: that government is best which governs least, [...]
But as government grows larger and more powerful, it crowds out private action. It replaces local, familiar, and organic institutions with remote bureaucratic ones. As state and federal governments swell, taking over functions that used to be left to individuals and voluntary organizations, communities are weakened.Bill Bennett explains Why Rick Perry is a Strong Candidate, reminding us that before the candidacy and before the pathetic Demagogic party attacks, Perrys Texas attracted a lot of non-partisan praise:
Increasingly citizens are taught to rely on government, rather than on themselves or their neighbors. They develop a sense of entitlement, and entitlement in turn fuels selfishness. (Jeff Jacoby When Inconsequential Means Better)
In 2009, one nonpartisan poll of business executives ranked Texas as "the No. 1 state to do business" for the fourth year in a row. And, the Economist magazine highlighted Texas in 2009 as "Lone Star Rising" with a subtitle to its special report: "Thanks to low taxes and light regulation, Texas is booming." This was in addition to several favorable data points comparing Texas to California in a separate piece in the magazine.Ed Morrissey explains how twisted statistics lure in Jersey Shore liberals who fail to pause and notice the lack of a statistical baseline or detect the common trick of comparing dissimilar or different time periods. If it sounds too good (or too bad) to be true, it probably is.
Romney has business experience and intellect that are not on Perry's resume' but he is from "Massatoositts," (Webster's Texas Edition, see also "Massachusetts"), and Texans love to kick their political boots into New Englanders' squishy parts. (Why Rick Perry is headed to the White House)Game on!
Pales in comparison to Palin.
We need someone serious and sober (hopefully not Mit) - not a neo-confederate like Paul or a nut waving a gun and shooting fixtures like he is the dictator of a banana republic like Perry. And what is Perry going to do next? Perhaps advocate we tear up the U.S. Highways because that is a fedgubmint project and public roads are communist?
I have guns, including the dreaded “military” guns the liberals cower over. But if I went around waving a gun and shooting light fixtures, they would put me in jail or a mental hospital - no one would think to put me in the WhiteHouse and give me control of nuclear weapons.
Is that the best we can do? Do some people really want to stick the country with four more years of Obama socialism just so they can have gun-waving yahoos “make a statement” about how much they hate the fedgumnint infrastructure?
You got half a vote last time?
I hope that is sarcasm. I'd hate to think there was anyone stupid enough to read that article and believe it was a real description of an event that actually took place. That would take a level of ignorance that would seem to belie the intelligence to remember to breath, let alone work a computer.
A man who is a legend in his own mind!
Im not 100%, but this article kinda seems like satire.
The shooting the light fixture article was satire. Did you really think he baptized a reporter in a bucket of Jack Daniels?
Hell, you'd be satisfied with me being a nasty rumor.
Ummm...satire alert?
I was there. He did it.
He shot the light fixture, at which time he advised us that there would be handgun vending machines installed in all airports.
But you love us anyway.
;-D
I was going to ask, yikes. It had to be a satire or the most blatant lie a reporter ever made.
Rove’s issues with Perry are personal. Plenty of the GOP Establishment are behind the TX guv.
Do you always have such a hard time differentiating between blatant satire and reality?
Why didn't you complain about Perry forcibly baptizing a reporter in a bucket of Jack Daniels? Did you not believe that was also true?
Coming form a guy who supports Alan “Who can’t win S**t” Keyes... At least he would get the honor of losing to Barak Obama 3 times.
Has he chosen a vice? LOL. I always thought his vice was “hit’n it”.
Actually I’m running for President.. Who wants to be my running mate???
I don’t have a candidate. You’re mistaken, as usual.
They are not the only ones.
Hold my beer and watch this:
Sarah Palin will never be elected!
Now watch, and learn.
(Just kidding folks....trying to be funny.)
That was my fault.
In 2008 I wrote in “Laz” but couldn’t remember his last name.
They gave .5 to him and .5 to Lazlo in PA.
Sorry Laz. I tried. Don’t hit me.
