Best Sci-Fi rock songs
June 12, 2011 | Vanity

Hi, FRiends. Was just looking for little levity and dreamed up this thread for a lazy Sunday afternoon. Please ignore if you don't want to play.

So what is your favorite science fiction-themed rock (or other musical genre) song? There are the obvious ones such as "Rocket Man" or "Space Oddity" but I'm curious as to what else is out there.

My choice is Queen's "39" from "A Night at the Opera," a bittersweet Brian May tale of the potential heartbreak among loved ones when some of them go on an interstellar voyage looking for a new planet. Probably my favorite Queen tune.

Your mileage - especially in light years - may vary.

Cheers, Jim

“Flash” by Queen. Just such a “serious” song for such a campy movie. Really like it.

Montrose - "Space Station #5".

Sammy Hagar then went on to destroy Van Halen.

“Veteran of the Psychic Wars” by Blue Oyster Cult is pretty good, it’s from the soundtrack to the animated film “Heavy Metal” released in 1981. “True Companion” by Donald Fagen and “All of You” by Don Felder are from the same album.

Can’t believe I’m the first to mention this one.

Planet Claire, of course.

“Flash” by Queen.

Queen did some good sci-fi music. The Radio Ga Ga video was a nice tip of the hat to Fritz Lang's Metropolis and the movie Highlander would not have been the same without Princes of the Universe.
