Can we please keep comments about the Mormon faith off the political discussion threads?
one man's opinion...

Posted on 05/24/2011 4:07:08 PM PDT by ken5050

As we enter the GOP primary season, I'm starting to notice more and more an annoying trend here in FR. It seems as though everytime there's an article, or someone posts a comment about Romney, either pro or con, it nearly always devolves into an extended, and acrimonious discussion about the Mormon faith. Those who defend it, and those who, for whatever reasons, can't abide it, both sides seem determined to wage an "end of times" batte on all the FR threads. Frankly, I'm tired of it, and just wish it would stop. I think that probably 99% of others here feel the same way.

“Since when is telling the truth about a theology or a political philosophy termed “ceasing to treat all religions fairly”? “

Wow Well twisted!

A) The truth is not being told just one glance at the people here trying to say We think God the Father had Sex with Mary should be evidence enough of that. (We believe in the virgin birth, so no sex with anyone or she's not a virgin, get it?)

B) The fact that the Leadership of the forum has come out against a religion makes it an un-level playing field.

“Why don't you provide links to what you perceive to be proof that supports your opinion so that we can judge for ourselves?”

What would you like links to? start here http://freerepublic.com/~delphiuser/#TheVirginMary and compare with what is being said here unsupported about Mormon belief in Mary with what apostles of the church are saying. They not only don't match, they are in direct opposition.

(Psst we are being lied about and no one is getting in trouble for the blatant lying, get it?)

“So does romney listen to the same voices in his head, if so he is not stable enough to be president.”

So, to you the prophets int eh Bible were unstable?

JFTR, there are no voices in my head but me... and my conscience, which is also me, and we don't think... Wait, what should I be posting, and who are you? ... /Humor.

“Are you accusing JR of banning people because they are Mormon?”

No.

I am saying a lot of Mormons were banned for things the Anti’s were doing too, and they never even got a wrist slap.

I have been called names and even had anti’s “praying for my death” and ... Nothing. Call an anti a name and you're out of here.

“Are you supporting the scum bag this time?”

I don't like Mit, he's too smooth, kind of like the worst qualities of a used car salesman and a televangelist rolled into one political candidate.

I haven't picked a horse to root for yet, I'm kind of hoping a better one will enter the ring.

If I got to draft, I'd pull Zell Miller from retirement and put Sarah in as his VP. Now there would be a team with ZIP!

Ah well, do we have a real conservative in the race? Can they stand up please?

You are accusing JR of banning people for being Mormon.

The conservatives were against Romney, and the pro Romney people were banned for liberalism.

If God created Jesus and God created Satan, then they would be 'brothers'.

Is that the LDS reasoning?

<SNIP>

Unless your are hopelessly stuck in a cult or are a confirmed atheist, I suggest again you read the Bible.

Try this on for LDS reasoning:

Do Mormons Believe Jesus and Satan are brothers?

That depends on what you mean by brothers, suffice it to say that is not a "Mormon" teaching you will hear stated in Sunday School, but we believe the Bible, so consider the following scriptures:

Hebrews 12: 9
9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
God is the Father of Spirits.

2 Peter 2:4
4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;
Satan was once an angel, and was cast out of heaven.

Hebrews 1:7
7 And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.
Angels have spirits and can call God Father.

1 John 1:34
34 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.
So Satan was once an angel, Angels have a spirit, and God is the father of Spirits, also Jesus is "The Son of God" therefore, according to the Bible, they are brothers. We believe the Bible, so.... we believe that Jesus and Satan can be called brothers just like everyone who believes the Bible.

What is misleading is that this is presented as a shocking belief when it is just Biblical.

One of the Twists of phraseology is to call Satan "God's Brother" which is a phrase from the occult, and thus phrasing this question this way makes a belief which all who believe the Bible to be the word of God, cannot deny to sound like we are part of the Occult, which is the point of the question.

Questions like this when analyzed sound like "So, when did you stop beating your wife..."

Fair Mormon addresses this same topic here.

You really are the expert on “slithery use of language” and I did not name you as the attacker. I had one poster actually bring my mom into the discussion and not in a good way, I have been damned to hell numerous times, been threatened with death, and called every name in the book right here on FR.

No selective memory, LC, I still remember that you are a Guy who's initials are LC so you like posting under Elsie to see how people react to your antics coming from a female name...

Anyway, I hate the viciousness with which Christians demean other Christians here on FR.

Yes OK
But this thread is not about Christians or Christianity
Its about Mormons and Mormonism
a whole other religion

Uhh Huhh, so we are not "Christian" so it's OK for you to act like you are not Christian?

Nana, how you say something is often as important as what you are saying. Christians who act in an unchristian way while attacking someone who they don't think is Christian, have only proven themselves not to be Christian. Jesus said to turn the other cheek carry the burden the extra mile and he didn't say to only do that for fellow Christians, but for your enemies.

Your posts say more about you than I would ever say. My posts reveal more about me than I would ever reveal, yet I have and I can look at them and say I have behaved well.

Mitt does have the qualities of a used car salesman and a stake president rolled into one. Interesting that your dream candidate is an old democrat.

So, you quote books, but no links and no knowledge of their sources...

Then you quote from the Deseret news in 1896 (the year Utah Gained Statehood) about what happened while Utah was a territory?

Godzilla, if I had presented such sloppy scholarship you would have beat me about the head and shoulders with it.

I posted a link to an article, did you read it?

Prove to my satisfaction that your religion is not a false religion...
That's a rather vague challenge.

Prove to GOD's satisfaction that MORMONism is a TRUE religion...

That was part of the point, as for the second, DONE! go ask HIM...

**JR also stated that He would not restrain the “bashers and then proceed to ban many long term Mormons from FR.** I would have to see where Jim said that.

Here is a quote for you:
"Not at all. Just having a hard time accepting some of their threads (like this one for example) that I find extremely offensive. I’m at the point that I’m not going to allow any protected LDS/Mormon Caucus threads on FR. You can’t post offensive stuff like this and expect Christians not to object to it. And I’ll be damned if I’m going to suspend or ban or deny any Christian from objecting to what he believes is the false prophecy of Joseph Smith. Whether Mormons will feel welcome here after this or not is completely up to them individually."
I don't have a link to the thread in any case it was locked and moved to the Smokey back room, but here is an article that statistically analyzes it and quoted from it: Anti-Mormon 'purge' coming on Free Republic?

Good enough?

Now as to apostasy, you ask for evidence, I give you the first council of nicea. The creation of the Trinity is the single most obvious example of apostasy happening at one point in time that I know of. The Jews don't believe the Trinity, the First and Second century Christians Don't believe the Trinity, but in 325 AD, the Trinity becomes doctrine. "Orthodox Christianity" today is defined by a belief in the trinity (a word that appears nowhere in the KJV Bible.

I go into Great detail here The Trinity on my page here at FR.

This should explain all the quotations you asked me to explain. and Yes, Mormons are Christian, but we are certainly not "Orthodox Christians"

Mormons are quite good at historical revisionism.

Sigh, not this again!

CF, I simply don't have time to fist fight with 20 people you may think you are the most important Anti here, but you all think that, I wish you'd have an arm wrestling contest or something and settle it one can for all.

I don't pretend to know why each and every Mormon poster who was ever banned was banned. I'd bet you missed a few too.

I do know that I watched some bannings where the Mormon was baited with tactics that would have Gotten us banned and banned for responding in kind. No, I did not keep links.

I was not off the mark, I did not slink away. I do get busy and after two or three days of straight time wasting here have work to do.

As for you arguing to defend someone else's reputation what a slimy trick, you post stuff, when I respond I'm attacking a fellow Freeper and get banned saw that one before too.

Pathetic.

I don't have it, the thread was moved. this used to link to it http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2650903/posts?page=231, here is an article that quoted from it http://www.examiner.com/lds-church-in-national/anti-mormon-purge-coming-on-free-republic

read the Stats on FR from the article, they are chilling.
