Apparently, the team going after OBL was instructed not to bring him out alive. I have already read several posts saying that it is a good thing OBL was killed, rather than captured alive. Donald Rumsfeld just said the same thing on the Greta Van Susteren show. The usual rationale is that it avoids the chaos and confusion that would necessarily have been the outcome of a trial.
I’m not so sure.
First, and possibly most important, consider the intelligence we might have gotten from him. The amount of crucial information he had must have been staggering. He was obviously not hiding away in a cave, as some of us suspected, so he was probably in close daily contact with whatever is left of the Al Qaida network. It’s not clear how much he would have talked, particularly under Obama’s interrogation rules, but interrogators have said in the past that sometimes arrogant prisoners will talk about anything, just to demonstrate how important they are. And, skilled interrogators have ways of getting information, even without waterboarding.
Also, don’t discount the symbolic benefit of having OBL in custody. OBL is now a martyr, even without a grave to visit. And he will be considered to have died a hero. If he had been captured, and pictured in chains, it would have been an enormous psychological blow to a society that puts great emphasis on symbolism.

The Paks traded Osama for Afghanistan. They are throwing AlQaeda under the Bus. In exchange we get out and make a deal with the Taliban. They handed Osama to Obama on a platter. Look for a “deal” soon. We are drawing down in June. China wants the minerals in Afghanistan and is in on it. This whole thing is a set up. Does anyone really think the Paks were not aware of what was going on??

Al Jazeera reports that a White House official told them the mission was indeed to GET bin LAden out alive. And our Hussein would have LOVED it!! A nice show trial going all the way up to the election! Daily reminders that it was The One who presided over the capture!!! The hell with the increased danger for NY, DC and the rest of the nation!! Hussein wuld have been glorified even more than usual by the MSM!!
I am actually amazed Obama wasn’t talked into Mirandizing and arresting him by Holder.

Ideally, we should have taken him alive, SAID we killed him, tortured every bit of information possible out of him, then disposed of his mangled corpse someplace lonely - like the Marianna’s Trench.
But I’ll settle for couple of bullets to his head and a haul of hard drives.
We don’t know, and the Deciever in Chief can’t make up his mind which lie he’s putting out is the most current, but if bin Laden had a weapon and pointed it at the SEALs, even if he did not discharge it, the point is moot. Were I in that SEAL’s position, I would have ventilated his brain bucket without even thinking about it. And apparently that is the very thing that happened.
I have been in that situation several times and we have a saying in the Infantry......”it’s either you or me, and it’s not going to be me, pal.....BANG”. Hesitation kills.
As far as bin Laden goes, he was already dead for a long time in terms of his significance. It really didn’t matter all that much now that he’s dead, because the increasingly expensive gas and bad unemployment already matter more anyways to most of us. If there is a victory party for OBL’s death, I can’t afford to go, or care to go anyways.
Dead was definitely better.

He should be brought out alive. The public should be told he is dead. He should be held a mile underground and turned over to a team of uninhibited interrogators. Once there could be no more information gleened from him...kill him with impunity.
