In a small town in Florida on March 20, the pastor of a small church held a public event: burning a koran for his audience and a video camera. His American Christian audience reacted as one would expect from them: they were happy to be a part of this provocative event; they returned to their homes and jobs after the service, and went on with their lives.
The world continued to turn nobody of substance cared about Pastor Jones latest attempt at news coverage until almost two weeks later, when it made the news half a planet away, in Afghanistan.
The president of Afghanistan denounced the event; imams and mullahs hammered it in their mosques. Their Afghan muslim audience reacted as one would expect from them: they streamed out into the streets, hunting down foreigners, beating hundreds of UN aides, NATO staffers, contractors, travelers, journalists, soldiers rioting in the streets, burning the shops in their own neighborhoods, destroying property, attacking innocent bystanders. At least a hundred injuries and dozens of killings were confirmed by the second day of the riots.
In a world in which thousands die tragically every day from starvation to murder, from disease and neglect these events might not seem particularly newsworthy. When arent there riots in that part of the world? When arent innocents killed? It happens every day.

You just saw how and I’m the fool? LoL we wouldn’t even be having this conversation but for Minister Moron the phony Christian.
Dhimmi
So what was your reaction when they rioted over the mohammed cartoon in the Danish newspaper? Evil Danish Newspaper?
When you shove your stupidity into someone else’s face it is your fault when you get slugged by him. This little cowardly phony Christian does not have to face the consequences of his stupidity our soldiers do.
We are in Afghanistan to accomplish a purpose why would you support a cowardly phony who makes that harder for us? While I don’t advocate insulting people unnecessarily I would not be upset if someone acted out such stunts IF OUR TROOPS’ JOBS WERE NOT MADE MORE DIFFICULT. That is not the case here.
[Its the medias fault for reporting it.
They chose what stories get the grease.]
Today’s winner, folks.
let him burn whatever book he chooses
this is America - we are free to do such things
the minister isn’t provoking anyone - the immans are - when you finally come to the understanding that our very existence as ‘infidels’ is provoking, you will realize there will never be appeasement, ever - ever. Just look to Israel for all the example you’ll ever need.
muslims need to get over themselves.
And it was General Petraeus who gave the stupid pastor all the publicity, when he publicly warned him. Before that, hardly anybody in Afghanistan even knew who this podunk pastor was, when Petraeus was finished....everybody knew who he was.
At present it is to install and protect a pro-American government and destroy the Taliban to the extent possible. It is also to show the people that America is not there to destroy their culture or religion. It is a very complex attempt unlike any of our former wars.
Look I despise Islam and believe it to be the work of Satan but it cannot be attacked directly and destroyed without destroying hundreds of millions of people. Americans are not Nazis and won’t support such a thing. I support those things which can actually lead to the destruction or reform of Islam not self-aggrandizing phony preachers’ stunts.
If I were so offended by your post that I went out and slaughtered a bus load of nuns, would it be your fault? Perhaps you should be careful of what you post. You might have blood on your hands.
You might as well try to install Santa Claus or The Easter Bunny.
No I have not. Christ attacked the money changers because they were profaning the Temple. He was not trying to have a theological exchange with them.
I never implied that Christ was a “milksop” when he shed his blood for you, I and the Moslems I don’t know of anything LESS milksopic than that. All I was saying is that he treated people with respect. Do you think that can be said of our phony minister here?
Perhaps you should go to their lands, drop to your knees and offer them big, sloppy Lewinskis. Then they would love us and purple ponies could crap rainbows of skittles.
No - a crazed angry mob encouraged to violence by their “religious’ leaders and the religious leaders themselves have blood on their hands.
Imagine this - the ones who carried out the acts of violence are responsible for their own behavior.
Western civilization cannot tippy-toe around forever hoping not to offend muslims.
What makes our troops job difficult are the absurd rules of engagement they labor under.
Granting that the Koran burning accomplished nothing positive (just for the sake of argument), Jones still had the right to do it, and we should support that right even if we disagree with him.
As to the scribes and Pharisees, he was warning them about the results of their beliefs and much of his contempt resulted from his awareness of their hypocrisy and twisting of the Law to their advantage.
I bet you experience this on a daily basis.
Innocent people died because of Minister Morons publicity stunt.
No, they did not. There are dozens of thought experiments and examples of real life behavior that prove your assertion 100% wrong.
Muslims around the world commit atrocities against Christians, their churches, their domiciles and businesses, almost on a daily, un-newsworthy basis. They routinely shred, burn or otherwise desecrate Christian Bibles. If your “point” had the remotest validity, there would be incessant drive-by shootings of defenseless Muslims on the streets of Ann Arbor MI and Newark, NJ. Perhaps the Amish would riot...or even Pastor Swampwater himself.
Some swampwater preacher wants to burn a Koran, let him. I take no pleasure in it. What’s your feeling about cartoons of Mohammed in a newspaper? Gibbon, after reading the Koran, concluded that it was “an incoherent rant.” If he were alive today, that would get him beheaded for sure. How about my spelling of their unholy text?
You obviously did not go to the trouble of reading the article in the Illinois review, but rather chose to pass Pharisaic judgment on Pastor Jones, along with some sneering at Freepers on this thread. My unhappy conclusion: You are either a left wing Muslim sympathizer/provocateur/troll or a logic-challenged mental infant.
No his only point is publicity. Like Goebbels burning Jewish books in the 1930s.
And we all know the terrible things the Jews did in response....oh wait...
