As the economy continues to crumble and as millions of Americans find it nearly impossible to find a good job, many of them have been wondering if things are any better in other parts of the country. And without a doubt, some areas of the U.S. are complete and total disaster zones at this point. For example, so many houses have been abandoned in Detroit that the mayor has proposed bulldozing one-fourth of the city. In Las Vegas, it was estimated that approximately 65 percent of all homes with a mortgage were "underwater" at the height of the housing crash. The number of people unemployed in the state of California is approximately equal to the populations of Nevada, New Hampshire and Vermont combined.

if i want to work without giving 66-75% of what i make to 0bummer and the dems for their buy-votes social programs... i may have to move to such a place
“I’ve been wondering the same thing.” ping to self
My bet is on Aroostook County, Maine.

An yet they sent Dingy Harry back to the Senate.
“Which country is the best choice to move to in an attempt to survive the impending economic meltdown? Im seriously looking.”
It depends on your language skills. If it’s strictly English I’d suggest New Zealand. You’ll never exhaust the supply of cheap mutton and lamb.
Hey, we're all comin' for YOUR fishin' hole!
I’ll stay put here in Michigan.
We have good hunting, lots of fish, and plenty of fertile land for growing veggies.
It gets really cold in winter in some of the southern states, too. Here, in Tennessee, we still have to cut firewood and keep a woodstove available to be used in winter. Also, life without air conditioning in summer would be - - - whew!!!
North central Missouri.
I figure it would be an opportunity to teach my liberal cousins to take care of themselves. My grandmother still has her big ole house sitting on 5 acres of yard. Plenty of gardening room there. My most conservative sister lives near granny too so that helps.
I’ve got my half acrer here in a very conservative little town (Village) and can grow a considerable garden. I can raise some rabits and chickens for some of my meat.
A state with a large percentage of rural residents, low land prices, fairly moderate weather and low taxes.
Off the top of my head:
Florida
Tennessee
Texas
South Carolina
Oklahoma
maybe Missouri or Arkansas
>>We have 11 acres in East Texas<<
Need a 50-something year-old ranch hand? I just need high-speed Internet to keep my night job as a computer consultant (that is why I can move to Dallas with no problem, my job doesn’t care where my home is).
Have you ever seen the winters in North Dakota?
For those who haven’t, let me put it this way:
People in Wyoming and Montana think that they’re the junior varsity winter team.
North Dakota is the varsity winter team.
Most people either cannot withstand a winter in ND, or their spouse won’t withstand it.
For complete self-sufficiency, I think that the southeast states are far easier for most modern people. The weather is better, the resources are better, the hunting and fishing for subsistence is easier, the farming/cropping is easier and more plants will survive there, etc.
Texas, in certain areas, is far better than the northern Rockies or ND/SD. In west Texas, you’d better be a pretty handy guy to be able to handle the water issue by yourself.
Having family roots in SW Idaho I agree with your assessment about CA imports and the “mosquitoes”. I used to love Idaho. Boise used to be a nice little city as was much of Idaho. Now it is pure suburban yuppie sprawl from west of Caldwell to east of Boise. Canyon County Commissioner Vasquez was a good guy.
Oklahoma.... no doubt. State hasn’t been really impacted by housing bubble and bust. Economy has been more stable. One of the lowest cost of living states. Plenty of open space. And a VERY RED state.
>>fairly moderate weather<<
Wow, given your list, what is extreme weather???? ;)
Nirvana or Grace...
How much of the world will be devastated with us?
