Glenn Beck: The New LDS Apologist?
Art Vanick ^

Posted on 10/04/2010 1:11:50 PM PDT by Amerisrael

"This is weird. Glenn Beck, who became a Mormon a few years back, is now using his program to promote Mormon archaeology. If you click on these links you can view it. He also has a conspiracy theory about how science, government, commerce, and religion, not in the least, the Smithsonian Institute, purposefully altered history. My good friend Kurt Van Gorden sent me the links below, as well as the descriptions of what he is saying in the videos.

In the first video, about half way through, I about fell out of my chair when Beck referenced Adair’s History of the American Indians ( imagine! ) as proof of similarity between Native American ceremonies and Israelites. He forgot to mention that it predates the BOM by several decades (It was written arounde 1765!). He then ties the Egyptian pyramid math to the Indian mounds (only FARMS and the Maxwell Institute have ventured in this arena, which instantly identified his sources for me). Then in the second video, he uses the fraudulent Newark Stone and the fraudulent Bat Creek stone Hebrew inscriptions as proof of Hebrew among the Indians."

I don't see them bowing up infidels nor do I think GB advocates it either,

I haven't seen that either and No, I've never heard GB suggest anything of the kind. I'm sure he'd not advocate it.

However, like all denominations, Mormonism does have its dark period in the past. Something called Mountain Meadows Massacre for one thing....

Girl...the argument here is this: Glenn Beck is Mormon, but he is also Conservative because he loves America.

The Enemy is not Mormonism but Islam. If we lose our focus and allow Islam to slither into our communities, then we have no one to blame but ourselves.

So what, if “Mormonism” is not what you want for this country? What IS what you want? Socialized medicine? Socialized work forces, where we all have to put in X number of hours a day in order to get X number of dollars for food?

If you keep your focus on Mormonism and lose the focus on Islam, the battle is automatically lost. This country was founded on our belief in Jesus Christ and the freedom to worship Him in whatever method we choose. We are now faced with an enemy that will not only destroy that freedom of worship, but will subjigate our lives and our future to the singular belief that Islam is the One Religion, and that anything else is punishable by death.

Please, Foxy, forget Mormonism at least until after November, and focus on the real threat to this country: Islam. Complaisance is not an excuse.

We can still support Glen on the things we agree with him on.

There is no one man or woman we have to shut up about, conservatives don’t put their faith behind any mortal man or women. Our philosophy doesn’t hinge around Beck or Limbaugh or Levin or Hannity. If it did it would be the shallowest movement around. It’s in ideas, not people.

Look what happened to the knobs who put their faith in men. We’re paying for it now. Obama. Clinton. Carter.

We recognize people on both side have warts. Some have wacky ideas. If you don’t believe them, be on record about it and don’t cower from your conscience.

It doesn’t mean he’s not right on most other things. But we need to separate ourselves from the wrong stuff. If Beck isn’t strong enough to take conservatives (ie friends) saying “He’s wrong on Mormonism” then he’s not strong enough to take criticism from his enemies. And he’s also not worth much to our side if we have to have areas where we have to shut up about and not discuss or be silent and just go along with him when he starts saying junk we don’t believe. That’s not a guy I want to represent me. He speaks his mind, I will speak my mind.

What a well-reasoned and well-spoken post. Thank you.

Are you not concerned about your soul and where you will spend eternity?

Islam is a horrible threat to this country, and NO one hates that religion more that I. My husband was nearly killed by the Muzzies several times. All in the name of Allah.

I believe that Mormonism is a cult. Jew’s are God’s chosen people. There is a great difference between terrorist and the rejection of God’s truth.

We have a Mormon who is becoming America's radio preacher, yet avoiding social conservative issues.

Who would benefit from the mainstreaming of Mormonism as just another "Christian" denomination by a conservative voice, yet at the same time is lost on the social conservative issues?

GLENN BECK:
"I have to tell you that Mitt Romney could be the only guy that could win, and I don’t know if he could because I think that Americans are going to be I mean, this country is going to be in deep trouble by 2012, and the next term, if it’s not decided this term, the next term will decide our fate. Then I hope that Americans are ready for an adult and are ready for hard news."

Good for you. In that case, don’t vote for Islam.

I see many Palin supporters that hate Beck.

Sources? Links?

Where's the proof? Or are you just going to throw out unsubstantiated claims as fact to smear others you hate?

We have a Mormon who is becoming America's radio preacher, yet avoiding social conservative issues.

How stranglyy disingenuous and misleading you are, from your own link and supposed evidence:

It’s a strange, possibly sad conclusion from someone who had called Romney out for “flirting with socialism,” but ultimately Beck was trying to determine who could win, not who he thought should. If Beck was playing process of elimination, which he clearly was, it’s hard to refute his conclusion that Romney is the least likely candidate to crash and burn in a general election, if only for being a conservative from the most liberal state of America and having moderate successes like universal health care under his belt. Or– and this one is for you conspiracy theorists out there– maybe Beck is intentionally downplaying the Republican candidates’ ability to success so as to clear the brush and become the reluctant right-wing candidate by default. After all, he is the second-most popular human being in America.

Need to lie to prove your misguided posts?

Shouldn't religious bigotry threads be kept in the religion forum?

The "religious bigot", Mitt Romney, has already come out against having a Muslim in his cabinet, if elected President of our nation.

From your spiritual standpoint they are the same. Glad your not God’s spokesman....he keeps his own counsel. Too many think they know who is going to hell and who isn’t...be careful. Jesus had a answer for those that think that way. To some he will say *be gone, I know you not* even tho they cast out demons in his name....jmho

“The name of the church you are so deathly afraid of is: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.”

Yeah, I understand, I’m against false advertising too.

You’re sharp to pick up on the deception, since most
would just see how mormons steal the name of Christ
and then redefine him as a created being, instead
of eternal God. Good eye.

As I have stated, I am not very familiar with Mormonism but I hardly think it is comparable with islam.

You will find that there quite a few points that ARE similar:

This list was compiled by a former mormon:

Mormonism is Closer to Islam than to Orthodox Christianity An ongoing issue as the Mormon Church attempts to polish its recently tarnished image is whether or not Mormons are truly Christians. Church leaders and most Mormons insist that the Mormon Church is Christian by definition because the Church teaches the divinity of Jesus Christ. Many orthodox Christians disagree that Mormons are "true" Christians because of a number of beliefs regarding God wherein Mormonism differs from orthodox Christianity.

In view of the growing concerns regarding the devastating effect of radical Islam on world peace and stability, Mormons might do well to consider the substantial similarities between Islam and Mormonism. Below are listed 23 such similarities. The list is based on my own study and conversations with Muslims. Similar lists exist in the internet. However, I have found none that are as extensive as the list below. Based on the fact that the list below is longer that any analogous list I could make for similarities between Mormonism and orthodox Christianity, I claim that Mormonism is closer to Islam. Can anyone come up with a longer list of similarities between Mormonism and orthodox Christianity?

23 Similarities between Mormonism and Islam:

- Both claim to be the restoration of the "true gospel" that had been lost,

- Both restorations involved visions,

- Both restorations were assisted by an angel,
- New Holy Scriptures were revealed to man from a book that exists in heaven,

- Both new scriptures claimed to be the perfect word of God,

- Multiple, inconsistent creation stories in the new revealed scripture,

- Practice of polygamy sanctioned at some point in both religions,

- Strict patriarchal authority in both religious and family life,

- Both religions are structured as effective theocracies,

- Both religions teach that Earth is to be cleansed by fire in the last days,

- Sanctions against use of alcohol and tobacco.

- Women relegated to secondary roles and subjected to the husband (or in Islam to any other male relative).

- Women encouraged to dress modestly, with sanctions against those who fail to do so.

--Both the Book of Mormon and the Koran contain stories and/or extended near-verbatim passages from the Bible.

- Both religions accept the Bible as scripture, but believe it to be corrupted in some ways and hold their revealed scriptures to be "more correct".

- In both Islam and Mormonism, apostasy condemns one to hell, and in Islam apostasy can require blood atonement (that is, the death of the apostate).

- Principle of blood atonement in Mormonism has analogs in Islam including death to apostates and the tradition of "honor killings". That is, there are certain sins which can only be atoned for by the shedding of blood. (Honor killings in Islam are usually visited upon young females.)

- Both of the revealed "perfect books" (Koran and Book of Mormon) were later revised to make them "more correct". Mohammad removed the "Satanic Verses" from the Koran, and more than a thousand changes have been made to the Book of Mormon since the original edition was printed.

- Both religions initially contained elements of polytheism, which were later removed ("Satanic Verses" from the Koran) or de-emphasized or denied such as man-to-God and Adam-God principles in Mormonism.

- Multiple heavens (7 in Islam and 3 plus additional degrees in Mormonism) where men can be accorded multiple wives (and / or concubines in Islam).

-Divided into two or more sects by disagreements over whether the right to lead the religion (succession) should be inherited, or when new leaders try to reform or update the basic tenets of the religion.

- Belief in the existence of "immortalized" or "translated" beings (The Three Nephites in Mormonism and the Immortal Imam in Islam) who still walk the earth waiting to be of assistance to the faithful in some future time of crisis.

- Joseph Smith and Muhammad both had a lust for young females. Both acted on these desires, and had multiple wives and mistresses / concubines as a matter of record.

- both have ritualized fasting required by all adherents.

- both nurture feelings of persecution and an "us vs them" attitude in adherents.

- both resort to ad campaigns to show how "Normal" their members are when they perceive that bad publicity is damaging their standing in the community.

I can tell you this. I actually have more respect for Palin after this thread. She has America in mind first. As well she should if we are to survive as a nation.
