OVER THE HORIZON: Something bright and active on the far side of the sun is about to turn toward Earth. Magnetic loops towering over the eastern limb herald its approach:
NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory took this picture during the early hours of July 26th. The bright glow revealed by SDO's extreme ultraviolet camera comes from million-degree plasma trapped by overlying magnetic fields. A sunspot is likely at the bottom of it all.
Or maybe two sunspots... NASA's STEREO-B spacecraft is stationed over the sun's eastern limb, and it sees a pair of active regions approaching single file. The one peeking over the limb now is actually the smaller of the two. Readers with solar telescopes should train their optics here.

The sun is just an ordinary star. Like the bright little dots that twinkle at night. How powerful can THEY be?

Doesnt it take 8 minutes from the light of the sun to get to earth so if we see it, it should be here in 8 minutes.I'm not following your logic there.

That’s why we have that spacecraft at the sun, silly.
It sees the sun’s acid reflux attack first, and then beams the picture back to us on radio waves!
...oh wait...

That’s right. About 400 km/s, or a million miles an hour.

If this adds a few degrees to the temp, they will blame it on global warming.

Which means the solar wind has about a 41 hours flight time to earth.
If there was e.g. a solar flare that was going to destroy all life: we’d have ~ 40 hours warning of the oncoming proton shock.

It's good to remember that if you're shooting at the sun. Make sure and lead it by eight minutes. (Actually, if you want to bounce radar signals off the sun, it pays to aim where you think it's going to be in about 500 seconds and wait for an echo in the same direction in about 1000 seconds, even though the sun will have already moved past that location.
The sun takes about 27 days to rotate on it's axis. Any information we get about the sun is at least 500 seconds old. Space borne sensors can't get the information here any sooner, no matter what. We can see this storm cloud over the solar horizon and know that in a day or two, when the sun rotates a little further, it will be pointing at us, with whatever perils or curiosities that entails.

Plenty of time to blame the Tea Party movement for racist proton emanations.

What if I run over a Sun with my car? Can I just stick it on the roof-rack?

I know all that and still miss the logic of the post.
One fact doesn't follow from the other, unless the effects of this outburst are traveling exactly half the speed of light from this outburst.
