What did the President know and when did he know it?
According to Richard Wolffe Barack Obama was apprised not only of the leak, but of the magnitude of the leak, how hard it would be to repair and how long it could go on:
Critics have bashed President Obama for being slow to seize the political initiative in combating the BP oil spill in the Gulf Coast, now widely believed to be the worst environmental disaster in U.S. history. The White House has battled back, releasing a timeline of events showing that Obama was briefedand deploying the Coast Guardwithin 24 hours of the Deepwater Horizon blowout. What has not been previously disclosed: The president was not only briefed on the real-time events of the spill, but also on just how bad it would beand how hard it would be to plug the hole.
This has nothing but bad written all over it:

Tar baby balls are everywhere.
He must have figured it was a crisis that would get cap n tax passed. He probably also figured he could talk his way out of the bad PR and the lost jobs would just mean more voters dependant on handouts - nevermind the dead wildlife, just a means to an end.
What incentives did he really have to make an honest effort to protect the coastline - that is, from his point of view?
What did the President know and when did he STOP knowing it would be a better question.Plausable deniability here we come.

Since I know liberals, I know what his first reaction was: “How can I use this to my political advantage”
LAS VEGAS -- The scale and carnage of BP's recent oil spill disaster continues to grow on a daily basis. BP shares have fallen 12% since the disaster.
News organs report that several banks (including Goldman Sachs, GS and Citigroup, C ), recommended buying BP shares. They argue investors are over-reacting since the April 20 explosion.
BP released news that it has tested the dispersants (manufactured by Chicago-based Nalco Holding Co.) and authorized it's use on a larger scale. BP also added it is looking for additional suppliers to begin manufacturing the dispersant material in mass quantities. SOURCE http://tinyurl.com/2cachel

Goldman reported readying BP for takeover defense
Marketwatch
FR Posted June 06, 2010 by Hamiltonian
LONDON (MarketWatch) -- BP PLC's regular advisor Goldman Sachs is rumored to be preparing to fend off any potential takeover attempts for the U.K. oil major, reports the Independent on Sunday....... (Excerpt) Read more at marketwatch.com ...
Big story here. Blogger Joanne Moretti put out earlier this week info about Nalco.
Lotsa links and documentation. Grab ‘em before they “disappear.”
Obama chose to stop that, and use dispersents instead. Now the oil can't be burned off.
Many other countries volunteered to assist in the fight to stop the leak and clean up the oil.
Obama refused all help, including Saudi Arabia's supertanker that is able to siphon/skim oil off the water surface.
All those tar balls are Obama’s legacy.!
All the dead wildlife and fish are Obama’s legacy!
Thanks——got it.
“He must have figured it was a crisis that would get cap n tax passed. He probably also figured he could talk his way out of the bad PR”
Bingo.
Very astute analysis. The Kenyan’s arrogance blinded him.
Now he is wounded. Time for the kill.
The "take-charge" Feds shouldered that responsibility.
We can infer that the same "take-charge" Feds also have an obligation to make sure the American people don't suffer needlessly from disastrous results of that drilling.
Yes, BP should pay for the clean up, but the Federal Government should have moved quickly to make sure the damage was minimized as much as possible.
Has Obama declared a state of emergency in Louisiana yet?
And not a word of sympathy for the 11 dead workers.....
