The "take-charge" Feds thought that they had an obligation (to the American people) to regulate drilling in the Gulf.

The "take-charge" Feds shouldered that responsibility.

We can infer that the same "take-charge" Feds also have an obligation to make sure the American people don't suffer needlessly from disastrous results of that drilling.

Yes, BP should pay for the clean up, but the Federal Government should have moved quickly to make sure the damage was minimized as much as possible.

Has Obama declared a state of emergency in Louisiana yet?
