What do marijuana, guns, and the American flag have in common?

Whose country is it, again?

At Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, CA, the American flag has been deemed "incendiary" when worn on certain days. In this case, when worn on the Mexican holiday of Cinco de Mayo. According to a story on FOXNews.com, five students were sent home for reportedly attempting to incite violence by wearing the colors of the United States--the country in which their school happens to be located.

One of the boys, Daniel Galli, told a local NBC affiliate that school officials told he and his five fellow offenders that they could wear clothing celebrating the American flag on any other day, but Cinco de Mayo was "sensitive to Mexican-Americans because it's supposed to be their holiday so we were not allowed to wear it."

To be fair, the school district, smelling the potential for a First Amendment lawsuit, wisely released a statement claiming that they did not agree with Live Oak's decision to refuse to allow them to wear the shirts and bandannas.

"In an attempt to foster a spirit of cultural awareness and maintain a safe and supportive school environment, the Live Oak High School administration took certain actions earlier today," the statement read. "The district does not concur with the Live Oak High School administration's interpretation of either board or district policy related to these actions."

It's not surprising that a California school would take such a tyrannical position as to prohibit kids from bringing the American flag to school. These are the same sort of people, after all, that also prohibited the Declaration of Independence in a high school classroom because it, too, was "incendiary."

What is truly disturbing about this case, however, is how blatant was the subversion of American pride and patriotism to the perversion that is multiculturalism...

If it weren’t for that flag no one would be able to celebrate anything. NO ONE will ever tell me I can’t wear anything with our proud, American flag.

The school is seeking some balance here. Students may wear their US flag colors to school on July 4.

The students should have replied like this:

"Sir, I disagree with your notion that the American flag in an American school is 'incendiary'. As such, I am now going to go back to class. If you wish to stop me, you may call the police and have me arrested or you can hold me in your office, in either case I will sue your ass and this school district for every penny I can get for depriving me of my education. Your choice."

Some of those kids are probably on medical pot for laziness or toe jam or something.

“The school is seeking some balance here.”

1. Unless California Norte wants to secede from the US, American kids should be able to wear red, white and blue any and every day of the school year.
2. What other nations’ holidays does this school observe?
3. Impeach Pedro!

I can only assume that was sarcasm.

The article states "One of the boys, Daniel Galli, told a local NBC affiliate that school officials told he and his five fellow offenders..."

The correct form the pronoun for an indirect object is "him."

Why didn't the editor catch this?

What? The students have a First Amendment right to wear Old Glory on their clothing any time they wish, and wherever they wish.

Take your "balance" and stuff it where the sun don't shine.

Is 5 May a national holiday in Mexico? Are there public ceremonies associated with its observance? What historical event is commemorated on 5 May? What is the date of Mexican Independence Day, if such a date is commemorated?

I had the exact same thought.

It’s a good thing that I wasn’t one of those kids. In my youth, I would have told the school administrators to kiss my ass, and gone back to class with my US flag shirt on.

If they wanted to use force to eject me from the school, there would have been news cameras and lawsuits.

Yeah, I really was like that.

September 16th. NOT May 5th. Cinco De Mayo isn't even a recognized holiday in Mexico.

Thanks for the grammar lesson. As I am my own editor, I will pass along your suggestion to... me... and make the necessary correction. That’ll teach me to do a write-up in the five-minute passing period between World and U.S. :)

Him doesn't understand what was wrong with that sentence. Him wants you to explain it to he.
