American Minute for April 6th:
APRIL 6, 1917, the United States entered World War I by declaring war on Kaiser Wilhelm II's Germany.
Within the next two years, America enlisted 4 million soldiers and spent 35 billion dollars, resulting in an Allied victory.
In a Day of Prayer Proclamation, October 19, 1917, President Woodrow Wilson stated:
"In view of the entrance of our nation into the vast and awful war which now afflicts the greater part of the world...
I set apart...a day upon which our people should...offer concerted prayer to Almighty God for His divine aid in the success of our arms."
In another Proclamation, May 11, 1918, President Wilson wrote:
"Whereas it has always been the reverent habit of the people of the United States to turn in humble appeal to Almighty God...
I, Woodrow Wilson, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim...a day of public humiliation, prayer and fasting, and do exhort my fellow-citizens of all faiths and creeds to assemble on that day in their several places of worship...
to pray Almighty God that He may forgive our sins...and purify our hearts...
to accept and defend all things that are just and right...
beseeching Him that He will give victory to our armies as they fight for freedom."
However, it seems this American Minute needs to be posted in breaking news today.
William Federer posts his American Minute every day and highlights something from America's past in which an American's faith in God is on display - either for a single event or, more often, he shows how faith in God impacted his or her contribution to our nation and to the world.
Today's American minute highlights the date, April 6, 1917, which is the date on which the US entered World War I - and the encouragement at that time by this nation's President for each American to turn to God on behalf our nation, and on behalf of each of those who live here.
Today - April 6, 2010 - we live in such a time again.
May God prompt our hearts to hear these words from 1917 as if they were uttered today - so that we will do as our forefathers did - not just in 1917, but over and over and over - in times of crisis for our nation and its people.
It is not meant as a call to worry, or to be anxious or afraid - but to pray, to be humble (like a little child) before our Father, to go to Him and just ask like a little child what He would have us do right now. And to seek His hand upon this nation today, a hand of protection, a hand of uplifting, a hand of peace and calm, a hand of provision, a hand of deliverance from evil.
Some may want to fast today.
Some may want to go to their houses of worship today.
Some may want to get down on their knees today.
Some may want to just stand outside and look up to the skies and raise our hands and rejoice and thank Him that He is in control of all that is going on.
Some may want to confess our sins to God and to each other, asking for and receiving God's forgiveness and the forgiveness of those whom we have wronged.
Some may want to FORGIVE those who have harmed us individually or as a nation.
Whatever we are "led" (inspired by God) to do in this regard - may we do it today.
And may God's peace that passes all understanding reside in our hearts and minds as they are stayed on Him and on His unfailing love for each of us and for our beloved America!
Thank you for the opportunity to post this in Breaking News today.
If at all possible, please keep it here and not in General Chat (where The American Minute usually resides).
Thank you, JimRob, and God’s best blessings on you and yours for this marvelous Free Republic website/family which has blessed and continues to bless our nation and the world in ways that we won’t fully understand until one day further along.
Good morning!
Today’s American Minute is so timely - I posted it in Breaking News.
Pass the word - today - especially - we are called to intercede for our nation, for all our beloveds, for the world. And we are to do this not in fear or trepidation, but in full confidence that the One who is the Creator of the world and of the universe and of each of us is in full control of all that is happening - especially today!
God bless each of you!
Thread bump.
BUMP!
Thank you both for the “bumps”. :-)
Will be back late tonight to respond but anybody who wants to can do that on this thread.
Much going on today (as there is every day lately...).
Yes evil is trying to come in to our nation like a flood, but God has raised up a banner - whose name is Jesus Christ!
I think I am going to spend the day praising and thanking Him for His marvelous love and grace which is on active display to this world, to this nation, to my state, to my community, to my neighborhood, to my home, to my family, to my beloveds (which includes you and all on Free Republic), and to me.
Hallelujah! All praise and honor and glory and might belong to Jesus Christ!
Welcome!
Praying for our nation that Obama refuses to defend.
Thank you for your post and your prayer for our nation....but I do not believe that the day America entered WWI should be commemorated. Our declaration of war on Germany was quite possibly the worst decision in American history, and I include the decisions that led up to the Civil War.
May His Kingdom come...
May His Will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.
God is the only hope for deliverance of this or any other nation. (or person...)
Bump
Bump!
Praying for this Nation everyday!
Good words, thank you Freedom’sWorthIt.
I pray each day for God’s help.
You are welcome - yes good words for all of us to hear. Glad you already know the power of prayer! It is our previlege and joy to be able to pray - especially united with other believers!
God bless!
Yes indeed.
Well the point of this American Minute was not so much our entry into WWI as it was about the declaration of a need for prayer and fasting before God while were in that war.
We did triumph in that war and, most importantly, the Balfour Declaration came out of it which began the process of bringing Israel back into existence as a nation!
God bless you.
Amen and Amen!

Thanks Freedom'sWorthIt.APRIL 6, 1917, the United States entered World War I by declaring war on Kaiser Wilhelm II's Germany. Within the next two years, America enlisted 4 million soldiers and spent 35 billion dollars, resulting in an Allied victory.Probably the fastest mobilization in American history -- the hayfoot strawfoot training, straight overseas, huge troop buildup, battle after battle, victory thanks to the US. And a big thank-you to the French trainers who (and I know this is strange) got the AEF ready to fight and beat the Germans and Austrians. |
