BATFE Believes M4 Airsoft Guns Can Be Converted To Bullet Firing Full Automatic Rifles

United States Customs seized 30 M4 look alike Airsoft rifles, pictured left, in Tacoma. The Feds claim they can be easily be converted to actually shoot full automatic with live ammunition. BATFE says that parts could be switched out quickly to allow them to fire live ammunition. This is sure to cause huge differences of opinion over whether the Airsoft gun can actually be easily converted to actually fire 5.56mm ammunition on full automatic.

These toy rifles look like M4’s. They do not have the bright orange tips to show they are toys. BATFE Agents say that they feel like and weigh approximately the same as a real M4. They apparently have been available for sale in the USA under the brand name TTI M4 CQBR (WE Tech) Gas Blow Back Airsoft Rifle.

The seized toy guns were labeled as “Toys and Parts” and came from a Taiwan manufacturer. They were designed to shoot Airsoft pellets and had no serial numbers. Of course, toys normally don’t have them. They do look very realistic and they accept detachable Airsoft M4 lookalike magazines, and the user can load the toy with Airsoft pellets.

The government claims that the shipment arrived without the proper shipping documents. They entered the country in October, and there has been an ongoing investigation.

Here’s the sales ad product description for the Toy Rifle that sells for about $400.00 in the USA.

"The WE M4 CQBR Gas Blowback Airsoft Rifle from WE TTI is the...

Personally a live line fire would be perfect.

Take BATF agents, hand them their “working” gun, loaded with 5.56 and test fire them.

Should make the point.

BATF, like ANY government bureaucracy, is ALWAYS seeking ways to EXPAND their authority and power.

By doing so, they can justify increased staff, which justifies upgrading the salary of existing employees who then can move on to supervisory titles.

This is the great danger involved in creating a bureaucracy. It becomes a self-fulfilling entity with a life of its own.

The fact is, the U.S. does NOT need a special police force to just deal with gun crimes, liquor crimes and cigarette crimes.

ATF should be dissolved and those of its staff thought fit to be retained, incorporated into the FBI.

This was one of Reagan’s unaccomplished goals.

My suspicion is his idiot Vice-President was one of the culprits involved in derailing that idea.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE BATFE imbeciles, do the test and fire a 5.56 NATO round from this toy gun. Also make sure that you have a nice group of observers tightly grouped around the gun to experience the results.

And if at first it won't work, it's just the agent not trying hard enough. Remember how long you had to try to get than guy's gun from Minnesota to slam fire. So don't give up! Keep getting new agents till you get one who can make it work! (You'll need a new toy each try too.)

If I were President, I would fire each and every ATF special agent on day one (1). They are the bottom of the barrel for federal law enforcement anyways. I would go further that any current and former ATF agent would never be allowed to work for ANY .gov, ever.

I would allow some exemptions such as the explosive division, which, IMHO, is the best in the world on arson and explosives, which would be moved to the FBI. However, if they ever worked with the NFA Branch or anything to do with firearms...buh bye.

Is this like the computer upgrade where you disconnect the power cord from the computer, throw away the computer and put in a new one, but claim that it is just a parts upgrade because you kept the cord?

Believe me, that has been done countless times (albeit usually in stages) to get past capital equipment approval thresholds.

I’m sure just like my MP5 airsoft gun can easily shoot 9mm. What a bunch of morons.

I guess no one at the ATF has a degree in chemistry or physics.

My concern is that calling these “weapons” implys an ability to injure and/or kill. Patently not the case. Cost does not really fit into the equation, especially considering the cost of things like speedboats, sports cars, and other “toys” that people buy.

"You'll shoot your eye out".......Paintball enthusiasts wear goggles for a reason. But they're still TOYS....the BATFE is displaying their standard lunacy.

Every attempt has to be recorded and posted on youtube for posterity.

If there are any survivors left to post the results.

I've never even heard of this toy, but if the manual is right, there are some real-looking parts in there. The manual can be found here (about halfway down the page, search for "WE Tech M4"). Needless to say, I now want one of 'em!

Now I knwo why the BATF wants them banned.

It says, right there in the manual, they cause EXPLOSION

EXPLOSION

Oh, that's it. :D

Anyway, I found this neat YouTube of one being field stripped and fired.

No biggie. Let the cretins at BATF get their panties in a wad over this one.

Numerous studies have proven that a decent marksman with a properly sighted semi-auto can be MORE effective than some clown running around “spraying and praying”, wearing out barrels and pissing away precious ammo with a full auto.

Let the motto be “One shot. One kill.”

Just make a claim they can easily be converted to fully automatic weapons.

That would maybe work if in fact full auto was a banned product but it's not. Anybody can possess a full auto so called machine gun if they possess the proper TAX STAMP for a paltry $200 from the BATFE. It's not even a permit per se but has the same effect as one for the hoops you have to jump through to obtain the tax stamp. These have been greatly lessened by the BATFE in allowing a document to be substituted in place of a person in the form of a CLASS III FIREARMS TRUST. Now you can have an attorney establish such a trust for full auto and or suppressors and the Bureau investigates the TRUST rather than the person holding the trust. Sounds stupid, but it works. You can lawfully own up to a .50 BMG belt fed weapon this way. Mike Dillon of Dillon Precision, the company that revolutionized the hobby of ammo reloading, has an electric minigun (helicopter mounted) and an electric QUAD 50 the operator sits inside to fire. Good thing his company specializes in selling reloading ammo machines, huh? Of course once you've paid the gov't it's $200 for the stamp you still have to shell out another $30K for the weapon itself. Then you have to pay to feed the beast. Suppressors are less at around $800 each.

From the article at the link (emphasis added):

This function allows for realistic training which mimics the real rifle.

With the advent of the WE M4, SWAT teams, Law Enforcement, and any other individuals who are interested in training in a tactical environment have the perfect tool.

That's the real problem. Can't have Joe Citizen practicing small unit tactics.

This is like saying noone should drive SUVs because you can fit them with bulletproof glass and armored doors...

I play airsoft. My gear is very realistic, even down to my plate carrier loadout. But I can tell you that these things just do not have the physical capacity to withstand the force behind even a .223 round.
