Yup,same here at my place.The ammo rests right on top of the cash and the passports (six,to be precise).

I like the idea of under something REALLY heavy. Burglars are usually looking for a quick in and out, not spending time looking in every nook and cranny, and certainly not under some heavy piece of furniture.

True, it's well insulated. My sister used to hide desserts in the freezer, marked 'broccoli' or 'cauliflower'. The kids, when looking for sweets, never bothered to look in those packages. ;o)

Without giving it away, the place I picked is very dry and warm. Its top is hard, but its bottom is soft. And although the location changes all the time, the money stays in the same place.

Really — A friend in Texas got a 2500 lb. safe — the seller (big name in the ‘safe’ industry) told him that in the couple of instances where criminals have tried to haul soemthing that size away, they were found dead beneath it —

I think the point here is what if the lights go out, there is no internet, there is no bank access. Then cash is king. This was the case after Hurricane Ike, and Lord knows after Katrina.

I think the secret credit union account works. Arrange to have statements sent to an email address set up only for that purpose. Arrange to have a debit card from the account, and hide the debit card.

I think another place to stash cash would be in over-payments on your credit card account.

Those are fine, unless you need goods or services, and in your local area power is out so folks aren't accepting credit cards and the ATMs are shut down.

If you absolutely, positively, gotta get the heck out of Dodge, FAST, or the power outage situation is thrust upon you, because of a catastrophe, cash is the way to go.

Inside a computer isn’t safe. First off, computers are easy loot...someone who’s experienced can yank a machine down and ready to move in 15 seconds, and that’s being careful not to damage anything.

Second, they’re not nearly as permanent as you think. 30 seconds gets you inside any normal computer with a screwdriver, and I’ve seen some that use large screws intended to be turned by hand that would take considerably less, too.
