Kamand, a Persian music group. Each performer was wearing regional dress. L-R: Oud, Tar (relative of later sitar, I believe) and Tombak. I saw Persians (Iranians) in the audience singing along with some of the songs. I don't know Farsi so I just enjoyed the music, but LoM keyed me in to what some of the songs were about. The drum player translated the refrain of one song: "I was not crazy but you made me crazy" -- some things are universal, it seems.
Bhangra & Bollywood Dance. I heard this music often in India and the dance, I believe (rather more choreographed) in films from India (Bollywood), seen on airplanes. On the basis of a very, very small sample, I might like Bollywood's products more than Hollywood's. The youngest sionnsareen had a lot of fun in this workshop.
Swing dance in "The Roadhouse." A favorite of sionnsar's sister, the youngest sionnsareen tried this out too and had to great time.
A view 180 degrees about, showing a very small portion of the festival outside, and bright sun & blue skies.
The first performance in the Japanese Traditions track -- a transverse-blown flute (not the better-known shakahachi, but a quieter, milder flute).
A later performance of Japanese Kabuki (essentially "Dance & Music"). There was a LOT more in this track but I was pushing the camera's abilities and nothing else was IMHO worth presenting.
For various reasons this year we attended only one of the four days of Folklife, but had a lot of fun.
Their are several freeways in my area named after Menachem Begin. You see a sign a most on ramps.
Even when it's a terminus.
This is a common theme of songs on the Spanish pop station, too.
Michael Burleigh, the author of the book I’m reading, described Mr. Begin a “megalomaniacal terrorist nebbish.” Guy’s got a way with words.
Yes, I’m definitely ready to be delivered! I’m getting too old for this.
I think it would be more meaningful and helpful if the sign read, “Abandon Hope, All Ye Who Enter Here”.
“You can get on, but you can’t get off!” I remember when they built I-5 out in San Diego, in the early 70s. You’d be driving along, and suddenly it would just ... end.
I had contractions most of last night, not very strong, but steadily every 15 minutes or so. It could still be another week before delivery, of course, but I took my nail polish off and cut my fingernails first thing this morning, just in case. I don’t want to accumulate any icky bacteria at the hospital!
Nothing happening on the baby front right now, but Anoreth can drive me to the hospital if an Emergency occurs.
As soon as I have breakfast, I have to go to the bank and the Wal-mart.
A lot of people return from a hospital visit with something they didn’t have before.
I think that’s a safe prediction in your case. Don’t call him “Bob”.
Also, be careful about sneezing. It could all be over before you know it.
Gotcha, no “Bob.”
Off to bank, etc., before it starts pouring again!
I did nothing for Memorial Day. At least actively.
Passively, I prayed a lot and read some Scriptures, in honor of the fallen, the fighting and those who wait.
I took a few moments to reflect on how blessed we all are to live in this country, and counted all those I knew/know who serve/d with bravery and courage. It was surprising to me that I had so many to name.
Thank God for America!!
Belated Thanks, Gentlemen, for serving our country!!
Good morning, everyone!
TC, rest. Feet up. Restorative. The house is clean, the kids can take care of themselves, and you deserve a break before the REAL work begins!! *HUG*
Back from bank and Wal-mart. The employees are counting the days right along with me; some even ask DP if we’ve had the baby, when he’s there without me.
LOL!
Some of us are counting right along with you, as well!
And I’m with Fanfan...I think Kevin is an excellent name! Fits right in with the other Irish Byos!
Only Patrick, and we don’t really want to encourage another to be like him ... not that he isn’t swell, but one is enough!
I got the Murphy’s Oil Soap ;-).
Thomas is slightly Irish...So is James (Liam) And Daniel...”Danny Boy...”...
Ahyezzz...Murphy’s Oil Soap. Time to clean what’s left! LOL!
My friend Mrs. McGuinness, who is in her 80’s and from Ireland, has sons named William, Thomas, James, and Patrick! The only one she missed is Daniel!
DP and I have made a selection, but will keep it quiet until the Brother is born, because we might change our minds when we see him!
Always good thinking, to keep one’s own counsel.
At one time, we had two Mikes, two Lowells and two Dons in the family.
Currently, we have seven girls in two generations with the middle name of Ann or Anne.
Funny how that works...
