Well, it’s not like we’re really listening ...

It was just dinner time in the East.

"Dinner time" is a highly variable concept. 6 PM in the Midwest when I grew up there, but in France the bouchons opened 6 PM or so to catch the American tourists, peaking business many hours later.

From what I see, "Early to bed / Early to rise .." seems to be a uniquely American expression. (Though the concept lives on among those trying to make their way upward elsewhere.)

6:00 is a late dinner for us. We start putting people to bed at 7:00!

When I grew up in S.E. Texas, we ate dinner at noon and supper at 6PM!

A bit more European, I think. I am thoroughly conditioned to having the "big meal" in the evening, whenever it happens -- 7 to 10+ PM.

Might not be healthiest, but it's what I'm conditioned to.

Can’t get more American that that! (We have two flags flying out front — one on the house, one on the road.) Do I detect a BBQ off on the left?

If that jumped out at you from that picture, you must really be hungry!
