Your comments about football are legitimate. I once read somewhere that an average three-hour NFL game actually only has about 11-13 minutes of live action.

Soccer isn't exactly an "awesome game," though -- for different reasons. Its lack of "scripting" may have a lot to do with why it is so dull in many ways. It's worth noting (at least in my experience) that an inordinate number of goals in soccer are scored under "scripted" conditions (corner kicks, free kicks, penalty kicks, etc.).

Soccer has some serious flaws that really limit its appeal here in the U.S.

Have you ever seen this one? Love the way McSorley and Probert salute each other at the end. Quality isn't very good, there might be a better one out there somewhere.

I don't want to watch a sport where the highlights are all of the goals that were almost made.

There's only one great sport left here in North America

Yeah, it's such a great sport that they have to allow the stupid fights or if would die overnight.

I can just hear the meeting now...

Hey Ollie, how about we start eliminating fighting from hockey like they do in every other sport in the free world?

Well Sven, because then no one would ever watch it.

Cue to the beer commercial scene with the guy getting tossed out of the window in his chair...

“Soccer, on the other hand, is a players game, with players devising strategy and making plays.”

No, soccer is a euro-socialist sport that provides great exercise for US preschoolers, but that’s about is. My favorite soccer match, though, is Monty Python’s epic battle between the German and Greek philosophers.

There is a reason that 4 year olds can play in a soccer league but most basketball teams don't start until kids are much older. In economic terms, soccer has low barriers to entry. In plain language, it's just not that hard.
Actually, soccer is extremely hard. That’s why there are so few goals in a game: Your only chance to score is through a well thought out and organized attack that anticipates and takes into account the defensive moves and strategy of the enemy. Most of the time, you fail. You have to understand why the attack failed, and how to correct your attacking strategy for your next attempt. If anyone thinks this is boring then that is most likely because they do not understand what’s going on on the pitch…

I don’t disagree with you, but I can’t stand basketball either. Every year I can’t wait for the month of March to just go away so I don’t have to hear about it anymore.

My two faves were Enrico Ciccone and the short-careered Louis DeBrusk for the Lightening about 10-12 years ago.

Never saw that one. LOL. What a classic!

I gotta be honest with you, though . . . I think fights like this really detract from what would otherwise be an awesome sport.

Those who say soccer sucks do so because they are unfamiliar with the game.

I played for years, then i found lacrosse. SOCCER SUCKS.

You'll never get an argument from me about fighting in hockey. But most hockey leagues don't tolerate fighting at all . . . and the quality of play under those conditions is superb.

Watch an Olympic medal round game or an NCAA "Frozen Four" tournament game, and you'll see hockey at its best. Heck, even in the National Hockey League fighting is almost nonexistent in the playoffs when everything is on the line.

I refuse to watch anything involving players on a "pitch" that isn't black.

6 Reasons why March Madness is the most wonderful time of the year:

1) Upsets 13 seeds over 4 seeds
2) Cinderella’s ex: George Mason 2006
3) filling out brackets
4) One and Done
5) Some of the best Games EVER played—1992 Duke vs UK
6) Championship decided by game not polls
