" I shell out for it, but then, I CAN. I count my blessings and am angry on behalf of those whom it really pinches. "

Ok, let me get this straight. This guy CAN afford to pay Gelson prices (thanks to this administration??), whines about paying exorbinant prices, blames Bush and then laments "oh, what are the poooorrrr people eating". I've never paid more than a dollar for toilet paper, cantelope, or anything else this moron brought up. And now, thanks to a garden, I won't pay a dime for cantelope or corn or tomatos or radishes or carrots or brussel sprouts or beans or peas or watermelon or cucumbers or artichokes or onions or spices or spinach or chard or.... jeez. You can walk down the street here and eat oranges, avocados, grapefruit and grapes right off the neighborhood overhanging trees. There are oranges lying on the ground. Has he ever heard of fishing? There's food give-aways at a half dozen churches nearly every night. In a country so trouble by obesity, this tirade is idiotic. The dims are having to dig pretty deep to come up with a bitch anymore. Thanks for this PJ.

“I AM DUMMIE, HEAR ME WHINGE!”

Every so often you send us a DUFU that exposes the Prog mindset more than any six op-ed writers working overtime could.

And the best part is - they do it to themselves; they VOLUNTEER to make fools of themselves publicly.

Adzuki beans are the lowest in fat but high in protein. They're great cooked with buttcup squash.

You know it's a good menu when you get 185 comments and no one else has even touched the buttcup squash.

I guess you're too LAZY to stop where roadside vendors are selling watermelons really cheap.

Or just grow your own like we do, even here in Idaho, where nothing but potatoes and farmer's daughters grow. ;)

We even have a weekly gardening thread which has been addressing this issue and what we can do about growing more stuff we can use in our homes. I shop Kroger, Aldi and the farmers markets. Stock up on stuff when it’s cheap, that helps alot.

I think we're all on a sweet, buttery snowflake roll here. We've been starving for for this. It's been a long time since we've feasted on a DUFU like this.

Can't talk now--eating.

“Heading to Aldi’s and tending our gardens.”

Yep, same here. I’m surprised at the lack of common sense shown by the DUmmies ... well ... no ... I guess I’m not.

Vidalia onions

74. You can buy them on the side of the road in Vidalia, Texas

REALLY cheap. Luckily I have that option.

Bet you can get them cheaper still, in Vidalia, GA, where the true Vidalias are grown....

“Bush must’ve added a “Food” dial to his gigantic machine that also controls gasoline prices, hurricanes, the number of homeless people, and the global climate.”

I was a vendor at an Art festival this past weekend. Really low turnout. Of course, they blamed Bush.

This is an ongoing gardening & generally cheap living thread that is well worth a week's reading. Seriously, it's up over 3,000 posts so far.

Thanks for the ping.
Funny how people buy seeds, I hope that's a one time deal.

I get my own from the plants.

3 for $.99 at the Walmart/Haliburton Detention Center....

I saw that yesterday at Walmart, however I had already purchased SIX ears of corn for a buck at the indoor farmer's market about a half hour earlier. At Walmart I bought several cans of coconut water with the pulp which I have become addicted to. Will buy more today.

Unfortunately I live in a townhouse and I don’t think my homeowner’s association will allow me to plant a garden. Maybe I could find some hidden area where I can plant a vegetable garden on the sly a few miles away.
