IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CHRISTOPHER KNIGHT ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY FOR SCHOOL BOARD August 7 2006
Christopher Knight has announced his candidacy for one of the at-large seats on the Rockingham County Board of Education after filing to run on August 3rd.
"I believe that I will bring a fresh and unique perspective to the Rockingham County school board," Knight said. "The realm of education is one that I have experienced much during my young life, from studying to be a teacher to actually running a classroom. I'm looking forward to contributing a new voice toward school policy-making."
At the top of Knight's list of priorities if elected to the school board is finding ways to reassert local control over Rockingham County schools. He cites the No Child Left Behind Act as an example of the federal government determined to micromanage local school systems. "There may not be much we can do at this level toward changing that legislation, but we can at least try to adapt ourselves around it," Knight said. "We are presently very much a system focused on outcome-based education because of the end-of-grade testing, and I believe that's wrong. We should encourage our teachers to be proactive instead of reactive." Knight also said that he is a firm believer in fiscal conservatism and is a supporter of such programs as the arts.
If elected, Knight has pledged to visit every school in the Rockingham County Consolidated School system and to meet with principals and teachers in order to listen to them and discuss how to improve county-wide education.
Knight is a freelance website designer and works part-time as a master control technician at WGSR-Star 39 in Reidsville. He is also the co-founder of KWerky Productions, a North Carolina-based film production company whose first major work, Forcery, gained rave reviews and has been shown in countries as far away as Norway and Argentina. Knight is a 1992 graduate of Rockingham County Senior High and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Historical Studies from Elon University. He is also an Eagle Scout and an assistant scoutmaster with Troop 797 in Reidsville. He has been married to his wife Lisa for four years. This is his first campaign for public office.
Peter Brady?
I'm not familiar with Christopher Knight. Why the Darth Sidious reference?
Not THAT Peter Brady. The OTHER Peter Brady.
um, ok then. I won't ask what happened.
I wondered how he was doing.
He's been doing reality shows on VH1 out of his Manhattan Beach house.
Problem I have with him doing this is he might bring cameras to turn his political stuff into a show.
I don't mind if he wants to be part of a School Board, but I hope he keeps the cameras on that activity out of the job.
Not the same Christopher Knight, finally got to the website.
Nevermind.
Good luck to him.
;-)
Our school system could be a model of how too much government from the top is wreaking havoc. Yesterday dozens of teacher's assistants were let go from their positions at several schools because the money that should have been there to provide for them was yanked away... something that can be traced directly back to No Child Left Behind.
The funding a school gets is correlated to how that school performs on end-of-grade testing. The thing is, the government looks at one particular demographic of student in that school to determine if it's meeting expectations or not. So in one school they might be looking at only black students, and in another one they will be looking at physically handicapped, while in another it's Hispanics. They completely refuse to take in consideration the school as a whole, instead relying on a scheme that can only be called levelling class warfare against the families of the community.
One part of my platform is to restore local control - as much as possible - to our school system. The job of education is right here in Rockingham County, not over there in Washington D.C. Fiscal conservatism is another part of it.
And on my website, I make no attempt to hide that a vote for me is going to be a vote for someone from a Judeo-Christian perspective. Heck, I admit that without that, I'm a very flawed human being. I'm still flawed no matter what... but a vote for me is going to be a vote for someone who's at least trying to do what's right. If anyone has a problem with my beliefs in that regard, they deserve to know about it so they can vote for someone else.
I know: being on a school board isn't the most glory-filled way to fight too much intrusive government. But you have to do something, wherever and however it is that God puts the opportunity before you.
Anyway, you can find much more information on my website at knightforboard.org . And if anyone reading this feels led to make a contribution toward my goal of bringing a considerably conservative stance to the Rockingham County Board of Education, I would certainly welcome it. There's details on my website about that too, and we'll soon be making it possible to make contributions through PayPal (after filling in some information that I'm required by law to collect).
I may win. That would be good. It's also very possible that I may lose. If so, I'll be fine with that. Running for office is already one of the best experiences I've ever had in life. It's something I would like for a lot more Americans to at least consider taking a stab at. After all, if not you... then who?
God bless,
Chris Knight

Candidate for Rockingham County (NC) Board of Education
What's your position on educating illegal alien kids?
What's your position on educating illegal alien kids?Deport them. They shouldn't be in our schools anyway. Not that I would deprive any child of an education but I would be swearing to serve the legal residents of this county. After all, THEY are the ones who are providing the tax money to keep the schools going.
Look at it this way: America is the stewardship of her citizens, just as Mexico is the stewardship of hers. We have to look after our own and we should expect Mexico to look after its own. That's not being "cruel": that's actually being quite Christian. But our system is stretched to the breaking point as it is from our trying to take care of EVERYONE crying for us to spend money on them.
That may not be a popular sentiment and I may lose votes from it, but that's what I believe.
Isn't that exactly what happens when you doom a child to government-run schools?
Rhetorical question, really. I saw your statement on what you will do for your own children. Good for you.
And good for you for having the guts to put that out in the open, although I'm sure it has netted you more than a little flaming vitriol from the sputtering mouths of tubby soccer moms and hordes of teacher-lemmings.
Good luck, I'll tell everyone I know who lives in Rockingham County to vote for you. I think you're nuts for even entertaining the possbility of serving, but God bless you for it anyway. I'm allowed to say that, by the way, having served my time in the meat grinder.
Here in Wake Co. the school board wanted $1.5 Billion (B) for new construction.
It has been whittled down to an $850 Million(M) bond issue.
The stats tell us that 54% of the new students are/expected to be Hispanic (Mexican, and likely illegal).
That is about $450 Million in construction costs alone that can be attributed to the illegal influx!!
And my liberal relative claims that illegals are an economic plus.
A sincere best of luck in your election.
