In brief, last night was the second of a 2 parter in which the question to be answered was, would another show,(Family Guy),depict Mohammed on it. Well, not only did that not occur, but there was a scene at the end depicting both Jesus and Bush in an extemely unflattering way in which i am too offended to repeat.
Did you actually watch both episodes? Do you understand the point that Matt and Trey were trying to get across? Plus there are already like three threads for discussion on this topic. Search "South Park" or "Cartoon Wars". Jeez. Take a joke, don't be an uptight Republican.
Nope.
Don't ever rent Southpark The Movie.
I think we should riot, burn effigies of the cartoon network, and declare a fatwa to kill matt & trey.
he he
watched both. the point was people should not stick their head in the sand out of fear. it solves nothing. it was pretty simplistic. and i really enjoyed the depiction of bart simpson. However, having Jesus take a dump on George Bush was a bit over the top for me. Why not have Mohammed doing that? Or mohammed taking a dump on Family Guy? Why the unequal treatment?
Yes, it was a depiction of what Osama would produce in a film. You missed their point.
what happens in south park, stays in south park.
They are in the business of offending wrapped in dripping sarcasm and that is the point of the show.
I don't know. Exactly how offensive did you find is on a scale of 1 to 11?
I'm not the kind of person runs around being offended all the time. If i were,i'd probably have spontaneously combusted by now. I am offended by unequal treatment. always have been, always will be. If they wanted to have Jesus on at the end along with Mohammed,so be it,i'd never have posted in the first place.
Because they wouldn't SHOW Mohammad! That's the point! The context was that it was a cartoon made by Osama Bin Laden, intending to offend US. If that happened, our TV news programs would air it. (things offensive to US), but not the Mohammad cartoon intended to offend THEM.
That's the hypocrisy they were trying to point out.
Ping
Then I think maybe you and Matt and Trey agree. Because that was the point they were making in it :~D
As with all sarcasm, there is always a grain or two of reality, but there is no attempt and never has been any attempt to be balanced or fair.
Nor should there be.
You were offended because the purpose was to offend some, gratify others and blast everyone in between. The normal reaction is to laugh it off. Anything else is a foolhardy and unwise reaction to this sort of humor. Most watchers of the show transition from anger to laughing during the watching, and that is exactly what was intended by the writing.
The point was that saying that they could get away with showing jesus taking a dump on GW Bush, but you can't even show an image of Mohammed.
Exactly.....
They proved their point about the cowardice of their own network and the media in general. Sure it was offensive but it was supposed to be to prove the point.
Jesus is a regular character on the show and is always portrayed as a good guy.
