To get a glimpse into the personal side of what Hurricane Katrina has done, read this talented teen's journal of everything that's happened to her since she learned a storm was headed towards her hometown outside of New Orleans. It's amazing in its honesty and detail.

I hope Samantha Perez is reading this. Writer to writer, this young woman can really write. She's already there. And she'll only get better.
Her last entry is about their evacuation. Where did she and her family wind up? Does she still have access to a computer so she can continue her excellent reporting?
I'd like to hear how things go. Please ping me.

Samantha's in school, but isn't happy there. She's still writing and there will be more posted -- soon, we hope!

Better start a ping list. This girl has another new fan.

I read the PDF version and also enjoyed the story of the young man from New Orleans whose father brought the family to the hotel where he worked as a pastry chef.
I'd like to see more installments of both diaries -- they were excellent and made you feel like you were right in the room with the authors!

Oh Lord, I can't stop crying. If I ever meet this young lady, you can bet I am going to buy her a pink dress and make sure she feels like the queen of the world.
Samantha, you keep writing. It will be your gift to the world and maybe even your own salvation.
God Bless you, honey.

Wonderful. Bookmarked so I can finish reading her diary, I hope she finishes it.
Provencial, we drive through there going to Shreveport. A speed trap. We always drive under the limit there.

For anybody who would like to help this girl out, please check out www.readthetattoo.blogspot.com.
She's in dire need of a new computer and even the donation of a couple of dollars would help her a lot!

Done. Thanks for mentioning it.

I don't have much but this young lady really touched my heart. Her writing is certainly worth the price of a book. I got her Paypal address from the Editor of The Tattoo < www.readthetattoo.com > to send her something for her writings. She doesn't need to be working in Fast Food. The Editor said they almost have enough to get her the new laptop. Russ Braaten russ@russbiz.net

For those who are reading this journal, there are several new entries today.
They are still looking for several hundred more dollars for a new laptop for the writer, Samantha, so if you or someone you know can help, please do it! Thanks!

There's a new journal entry today, about a trip back to her family's ruined house. Check it out.

This seemed like a good day to remind anyone here about Samantha Perez's Katrina Journal. She's kept it up for a year now and it's still a stirring piece of writing -- not very political, but moving.
