STOP PRESS: Abu Musab al-Zarqawi captured by US forces in Iraq

3.1.05

12.00 GMT. IDAO exclusive. According to IDAO's own sources in Baghdad and Sulaimanya, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi has been arrested in Bagouba by US forces.

The US occupation forces will cite this arrest as a victory for their war on terrorism. The people of Falluja in their demonstrations demanding US withdrawal of the last few days, which has topped 30,000 people according to news agency reports, have raised slogans distancing themselves from the Zarqwai group. The people of Falluja have repeatedly accused US forces of using Zarqawi as a pretext to demolish a city of 300,000 in an attempt to quell its resistance to the occupation. Many in the Iraqi resistance have expressed opposition to Zarqwi's methods in the past, who is regarded as a small force in the anti-occupation movement.

That’s exactly what you were attempting to do when you told the person who posted this, “You should wait until it hits Reuters or the AP first next time.”

I never told the poster what sources to read. I suggested waiting to post the story when a more reliable news source prints the a similar story. Read whatever source you want.

My point in this entire thread is that posting unreliable news stories as news is not a good idea unless you comment that it is only a rumor. You neglect the forethought of gullible people believing everything they read. Would you post satire news without first noting it as such?

I'm sorry I did not know you and so many others are so interested in false news.

Post it in the false news category next time.

Noting from your "technique", (If you are able to find a variety of sources that confirm the information, it is likely (but not assured) that the information is correct.), this was my point from the beginning.

I think admin has enough to do with their time without having to filter out false news from the breaking news category.

One day this headline WILL be true.

I would think that the right way to deal with him would be to put him in an orange jumpsuit, put 5 hooded Marines behind him, and then rough him up on camera and ask him some questions. Maybe have him beg for Osama. Then get out the big sword and sharpen it.

I guess we aren't allowed to go any farther than that, but that alone would be a good start.

What source would pick this up first if it were true?

DOD

One thing I knew for SURE when posting this is that someone, (SomeMANY?) would be sure to point-out this was a Debka style source.

Again...I don't care about idiots.

It's not that big of a deal, dude.

Oh for godsakes, now we’re down to semantics. The only purpose of posting a story is so that it can be read by the people here. So, technically, you are correct that you didn’t say we shouldn’t read it, only that he shouldn’t post it. How freaking juvenile is this going to get?

I don’t believe that news has to be confirmed by Reuters or AP before being posted here. Neither do the administrators or owners of this discussion forum.

If you want a rule that only AP or Reuters confirmed news can be posted for discussion, you are within your rights to start your own discussion forum with that rule.

Or you can use your own eyes to self-filter your news (if it doesn’t say Reuters or AP as the source, read no further) and allow the rest of us to do the same.

There's a difference. Dan Rather did it intentionally.

the freepers that get their jolly's off by saying hey don't dupe the post...

Since we're just a few girls here chatting...

You know what totally freaks me out? People who make a double post, and then post AGAIN, appologizing for the double post. Which now, has made it a TRIPLE post!!

LOL!

And to a lesser extent, those who post a follow-up to a misplessed word, correcting it. Just seems odd to me...I mean everyone makes mistakes...Why muck the thread up even more? I guess some people take this all more seriously than I do?

Agreed. It's not conclusive until other sources report it, but on occasion I've seen the Admin Moderators remove unproved or unlinked items that have later proven to be true. It seems to me that posting a caution would be a better way to treat such things.

Freepers take this things in the right critical spirit, so I don't believe many people get taken in, and it's fun to have the first word.

"Iraqi Democrats Against Occupation (IDAO) is formed by a group of progressive Iraqi activists who have been involved since 1991 in the committee of IRAQI DEMOCRATS AGAINST WAR AND SANCTIONS."

Sounds like a Saddam front group even though they say they opposed him. Saddam studied Stalin's tactics and one he used often was setting up a Trojan Horse operation amidst the opposition to sew confusion and identify enemies.
