One Quarter Of Californians: "We're Outta Here"
Realty Times ^ | November 19, 2004 | Broderick Perkins

The high cost of housing in California is prompting nearly a quarter of the Golden State's residents to seriously consider moving to cheaper digs elsewhere.

What's more, when Californians buy a second home, more and more of them are buying out of state in cheaper housing markets.

California has the nation's third fastest rate of home price appreciation this year, behind Nevada and Hawaii, rising more than 18 percent compared to last year, 84 percent in the past five years and a whopping 338 percent since 1980, according to the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight's Home Price Index. Nationwide home prices have appreciated about half as fast.

Well Arnie if you weren't so busy trying to get the Constitution amended maybe you would have time to fix the problem.

Of course looks like you have your priorities right. NOT!

And what the heck are you doing in Japan? Oh yeh its because the Japanese think that $500,000 is a fixer upper.
They are one of the reasons prices have skyrocketed because they will pay whatever the greedy CA will ask. Thats how this all got so out of hand. G.R.E.E.D.!

I think so. I've read a couple of times that our increase in population is only because of "undocumented" immigrants. If you factor them out, Kalifornia had a net decrease in the past 4-5 years.

Mr. RightField retires in 2005. We're outta here then!!

Hmmm What does a liberal state do without taxpayers? Oh, and Bush needs to tell them to "Drop Dead" when they cry for help.

This is a clear example of why it's so very important to limit the influence of National Government. When a state screws it up so bad you can simply move to another state. When the Imperial Federal Government drops the ball you are stuck with it!

Nope. The illegals are more than making up for the population losses.

What does a liberal state do without taxpayers?

If house values go down a bit many taxpayers will be underwater on their $500,000 loans. They will be a captive audience. It will be a virtual Berlin Wall.

2,502 Californians expressed grave concerns about the cost of housing and see little upside to the run-up in housing prices.

Nobody I know in California thinks this. Everyone believes buying a house is still the in-thing to do and that house values will continue to go up. They have short memories of the last real estate down cycle, or the stock market bubble burst.
