The high cost of housing in California is prompting nearly a quarter of the Golden State's residents to seriously consider moving to cheaper digs elsewhere. And no more than a miniscule, microscopic portion of us will actually ever move out, so it's relatively meaningless.
Here, watch it for yourself, live:
"Hmmm.... what about moving out of the state?
(Pause for 6 seconds....)
"Nah, I don't think so."

Unfortunately, Californians who have migrated north had ruined the politics of Washington and Oregon and I fear what will happen next in MT, WY, and ID if they continue to move in large numbers.

Yes, I guess that just because the percentages are far apart, does not mean they are safe.
ID is a pretty safe red-state unless the populations begins to balloon with Califoreigners.

Nobody is going anywhere. You can't beat the climate.I suspect the teachers, firefighters, nurses, service workers, et al might disagree with you. CA is a statewide version of what's been going on in cities like Santa Fe and Aspen for a while.

Fact is they can't build out here fast enough. For every person that leaves the state there are two more that CAN afford to pay the $$ to move in.

Actually, I've heard that many in San Francisco have already left. They forgot to hold onto something and just floated away.

I took my profits and moved out this summer. We drove up to Canada (about 45 miles) and had a picnic in Fernie, hardly any frost at all!

Yep, this Texan is gonna return home where he belongs one of these days, and take my home equity with me. Even if the housing bubble bursts it will still be worth it. Buh-bye!

Seems the people getting screwed over the most by the rising real estate prices is the same demographic that supported Bush on Nov 2nd. If this exodus is real, the red states will likely receive the refugees. The red states should be "redder" in the future.

OK, that would reduce the concern of red-state dilution. The aspect of reduced population would still be at issue. Does the Cali Electoral number come back down in the next census?
I see the battle to take on is here in the blue counties where conservative values should resonate. Chicago went for sKerry by 800K votes... the whole state was "only" a 530K diff.

Nobody is going anywhere. You can't beat the climate.Perhaps, however the savings made by relocating and spending those savings on one's climate control can spark relocation consideration.
Let's see, the cost of "financial climate" in CA, weighed against the cost of artificial comfort elsewhere...it could become a considering factor.
