Two things that Kerry must be pounded on starting as soon as possible. Number one, he said he would immediately open bilateral talks with the North Koreans. Clinton made this mistake and we've been paying for it ever since. No credible foreign policy wonk will support it. That is a boneheaded, stupid position and if he is attacked on it he will be forced to reverse himself.
Number two, he said he would immediately end our program to developed a tactical nuclear bunker buster. That is the old failed ideal of unilateral disarmament and can be easily discredited. Kerry has been against every major weapons program for the last 20 years and he still is!
He should be pounded on these two points as soon as possible.
This debate was won by Kerry if on nothing more than technique. Problem is he lied a few times and did not have the facts on his side for those of us who follow all this s**t. It was imperative for Kerry to gain ground tonight. He may have gained a little, but it shouldn't be enough. There are still many days and two more debates to come. No harm done. (But Kerry is the better debater. Don't look for him to be better the second time, in other words, don't misunderestimate Pres. Bush.)
I listened to the whole debate and I kept hearing Kerry say that he has a plan...but I must have missed something because I still haven't got a clue as to what "THE PLAN" is..did anyone catch it and could you clue me in on it?

I agree with you in part on this. I don't think that John Kerry won the American people over to him. But I also don't think that he moved people away from him. Kerry probably "won" the debate by a very slight margin, but I don't think in a way that will have any significant effect on the polls or the election.
Bush led going into the debate, he's going to continue to lead coming out of the debate. And while, I agree the Kerry will lose the election, I don't think that it will be as a result of tonight.
Hey! I looked at this thread-title, chuckled, and said, "The Wizard."
First time I've been wrong!
...well, about that.

Here, Here!!!
Come on. We are not all wishful thinkers here. President Bush put down a miserable performance today. He was slow, repetetive, did not react to what s.Kerry was saying. He was clearly on the defensive. S.Kerry on the other hand came out as a smooth talker and skilled demagogue. His lack of integrity and sheer hutzpah seem too much for President Bush to bear.
Thank you!
bump for insight.
MNJohnnie, as I posted before, BRAVO!! WELL SAID.
Thanks for staying supportive and positive about President Bush.
Even though I drank my Riesling from the bottle while watching the debate, a major point is being overlooked.
President Bush hasn't changed his agenda, his love for the military and this country, or his faith in the American people for as long as he's been in the public eye.
This President has shown clearly what he's made of -- FAITH in the human spirit. I'm puzzled at how many fair weather conservatives doubt the man who offers them the best chance to stand on their own two feet and bask in the sun of liberty.
It's L'Orange who has everything to lose--and I hope he loses EVERYTHING. His lies and obfuscation are attempts to hide his seditious/traitorous legacy. He has provided a clear contrast for those who truly wish to see what a lover of liberty looks, acts, and thinks like.
I LOVE PRESIDENT BUSH AND HE HAS MY UNYIELDING SUPPORT IN HIS QUEST FOR LIBERTY ABROAD AND SECURITY FOR AMERICA. This president means more than a debate to me -- he won my vote and a place in my prayers long ago.
I'm in the Kerry-lost-long-ago camp. This debate sure didn't do anything to help him. You still can't get any two pundits to agree on what exactly Kerry's plan - that he spent the whole debate insisting he had - is.
Bush looked tired from campaigning and umm BEING PRESIDENT FOR THE LAST 4 YEARS.Kerry just sits up there and bashes him with winners like "i woulda, shoulda, could, done anything better than you can/could/would."
Talking down to people, as you did, is something liberals do routinely.
I do hope you are right on this that Bush will win the election.
Saw the same thing after the Reagan vrs Mondale and Bush vrs Gore debates. This desperate need by certain segments of the Political Right to cling to their doom and gloom world view. John Kerry lost the election tonight. Kerry needed to seal the deal and instead came across as a pompous, arrogant, know it all, Washington insider. But that is all right. I am keeping copies of all the reponses here. I will repost this thread on Free Republic on Nov 3rd and contact the various trolls, and those suffering from McCainism, to accept responsiblity for their comments.
Kerry will pull this race closer. If Bush turns in the same performance in the next debate that he did tonight, he'll be behind coming out of that one.
Listen. Bush simply failed to close the deal tonight. He could have knocked Kerry out, but he didn't.
And Kerry is back in the race. Watch the polls next week.
