It is unfortunate when people confuse relentlessly negative critical comments as intellectual sophistication. There is this strange fascination with a certain segment of Freepers. They seem to think if they are playing devils advocate ALL the time and making constantly critical comments about their own side, it makes them seem thoughtful and intelligent. Maybe we should have a term for this? Call it "McCainism" A metal defect that requires the victim to constantly critize their own side while NEVER pointing out where the other side blew it. Mccainism does not make you look smart. See REAL intelligence would be to provide some serious BALANCED review not this hysterical "OH WE LOST! IT IS ALL OVER" chicken little screech time after time, post after post.
Mark my words Boy's and Girls, John Kerry just lost the election tonight. Since most who suffer from McCainism seem to be lawyers, I will put it to you in terms you might understand. John Kerry may, or may not, have won the formal debate but he didn't win the Jury. And you people always forget this one fact. The JURY (i.e. The American people), not the Debate coaches decides the election.
John Kerry lost the election tonight people. You heard it here first.
---He said some darn scary stuff actually!---
He did and by tomorrow the talk should focus on those negative points and not some magical overall performance standard: bilateral talks with the PRK, unilateral disarmament, sending more weapons into Africa, and taking a negative stance towards Russia just as they're coming over to our side in the WOT.
Indeed. Kerry seemed smooth, but we always criticize our own so much. Let us not forget that his hand gestures were positively creepy. Bush's performance looks weak now, but as the dust settles and the statistics (# ref to Vietnam, gratuitous references to battleground states, etc.) and focus group numbers come in, Bush may lose a point or two, but will significantly solidify his support. Which is all he needs to do.
Exactly, this format was a complete joke. Only one person is allowed to come up with questions to ask! That is ridiculous. The canidates should be allowed to question each other directly and the moderators should be a panel of people selected by both sides. Maybe each canidate selecting two moderators.
I agree about Lehrer. Why did they do away with the multi panel format? Then at least you had some good questioners like Fred Barnes and Mort Konracke. Mr Bush should have brought up Kerry's Senate record since the moderator did not.
I made a point to watch it on TV. On TV Kerry looked bad. He sounded much better. If you were FReeping or listening to the radio, you didn't appreciate how weird Kerry looked.
I agree! W did a great job tonight! He was real, Kerry looked so fake with his recent fake tans and newly applied rouge. He stood like a statue and preached to everyone his lies & rhetoric , while the President leaned into the podium and spoke to us the truth.
I agree wholeheartedly. Kerry's style might have been honed but the information that came out of his mouth was frightening. His comments about Russia, Korea, and Iran should cause great concern. He may have made his base happy, and I don't think he lost additional ground but he didn't win any new converts.
The President stood his ground and had a strong command of issues. He called Kerry on what he could without getting into the dirt with him, he did it with facts not speculation.
But, by the same token, Bush should have seen that (Lehrer's unfair treatment) coming.
It's not like its a big secret the media is out to get him.
Tonight was not a good night. But all that means is that we get up tomorrow and work harder.
Preparing a defamation lawsuit, Counselor?
The question is will the leftists think he's being pragmatic, or will they really be scared?
Yawn. Nobody trashes some lawyers more than I actually, including tort lawyer Edwards, that has severely damaged the practice of medicine when it comes to pediatrics. It's now Caesarian city. Thus I would have a conflict of interest.
My freshman daughter reported in from Cal Poly SLO. She could find no one who would even bother to watch the debate. She's disgusted with her fellow teenagers newly of voting age. I don't think the "young undecided" are paying any attention and won't vote if they've got too much homework, a hot date, or if the weather's a bit off.
By far, this was one of the most controlled debates I've ever witnessed. The questions were definitely too focused on Iraq, but I believe it clearly showed that Bush plans on continuing doing what he has been doing. No change in policy. No adjustments. No time to reasses where we are today. That was a mistake on Bush's part.
Face it everyone, and stop lying to yourself. Bush came off poorly tonight. The polls that are listed here:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1232074/posts
clearly show that the general populace felt that Kerry won this debate.
Bush has to work on the following:
1) Watch his facial gestures.
2) Stop repeating the same sound bites. It gets old fast.
3) Start talking with facts, not rhetoric
4) Admit when he made mistakes.
I'm sure I'll get bashed for these comments, but they are honest.
Well, I'm a doctor and I for one think you're OK.
Kerry delende est.
Good observation. I seem only to remember John Kerry's bore-ing cadence, but nothing specific.
Nice try....DU dummy!
Then you ain't all that bad...for an attorney ;-)
---Number one, he said he would immediately open bilateral talks with the North Koreans.
This is one thing that has puzzled me. Can anyone explain why Kerry wants MORE international support with Iraq, Iran, etc, but LESS with North Korea? I've never felt right about the Dems stance on Korea, but I wasn't able to pinpoint exactly why until Kerry articulated this tonight.---
I was shocked. This was clearly a proven failure of an idea and he voluntarily put it out there and then repeated it! Holbrook on Fox was already trying to weasel out of it. He claimed that Kerry DIDN"T say bilateral talks but MEANT that he would talk directly to the North Koreans within the multilateral talks.
Saw the same thing after the Reagan vrs Mondale and Bush vrs Gore debates. This desperate need by certain segments of the Political Right to cling to their doom and gloom world view. John Kerry lost the election tonight. Kerry needed to seal the deal and instead came across as a pompous, arrogant, know it all, Washington insider. But that is all right. I am keeping copies of all the reponses here. I will repost this thread on Free Republic on Nov 3rd and contact the various trolls, and those suffering from McCainism, to accept responsiblity for their comments.
