John Kerry Lost the election tonight
10-01-04 | John Knight

It is unfortunate when people confuse relentlessly negative critical comments as intellectual sophistication. There is this strange fascination with a certain segment of Freepers. They seem to think if they are playing devils advocate ALL the time and making constantly critical comments about their own side, it makes them seem thoughtful and intelligent. Maybe we should have a term for this? Call it "McCainism" A metal defect that requires the victim to constantly critize their own side while NEVER pointing out where the other side blew it. Mccainism does not make you look smart. See REAL intelligence would be to provide some serious BALANCED review not this hysterical "OH WE LOST! IT IS ALL OVER" chicken little screech time after time, post after post.

Mark my words Boy's and Girls, John Kerry just lost the election tonight. Since most who suffer from McCainism seem to be lawyers, I will put it to you in terms you might understand. John Kerry may, or may not, have won the formal debate but he didn't win the Jury. And you people always forget this one fact. The JURY (i.e. The American people), not the Debate coaches decides the election.

John Kerry lost the election tonight people. You heard it here first.

It isn't that the debates won't make much difference, but that this debate will make NO difference.

I agree with you to a certain part on this, but I also think that the debates(all of them) will make little difference in movement. The only good thing to come out of this debate was when both Kerry and President Bush agreed that there is a huge difference in their principles. And I think that issue will be the biggest difference in this election. One holds to his and the other can't decide.

It wasn't a debate about his Senatorial career but about Foreign Policy.

Didn't matter anyway but Bush will not lose if this continues at a minimum. He won in my eyes.

Agree Agree. And I think all this talk about Kerry knowing the questions ahead of time is crazy. Though I do think the moderator needed to address Kerry's past, my gosh it was up to Bush to bring up relevant history about Kerry. But regardless Bush kicked butt, he looked strong and resolute, Kerry said nothing we haven't heard before.

Come on. We are not all wishful thinkers here. President Bush put down a miserable performance today. He was slow, repetetive, did not react to what s.Kerry was saying. He was clearly on the defensive. S.Kerry on the other hand came out as a smooth talker and skilled demagogue. His lack of integrity and sheer hutzpah seem too much for President Bush to bear.

Curious how so many who never post here are suddenly long time Bush supporters that come in to spike W.

Bush did fine. He spoke to the folks. Kerry thinks he's still in the Yale debate club. Sorry folks. This is a media event not a debate. If you were scoring on points, Kerry might have won, but that's not how these things go down.

MNJohnnie, as I posted before, BRAVO!! WELL SAID.

Thanks for staying supportive and positive about President Bush.

Even though I drank my Riesling from the bottle while watching the debate, a major point is being overlooked.

President Bush hasn't changed his agenda, his love for the military and this country, or his faith in the American people for as long as he's been in the public eye.

This President has shown clearly what he's made of -- FAITH in the human spirit. I'm puzzled at how many fair weather conservatives doubt the man who offers them the best chance to stand on their own two feet and bask in the sun of liberty.

It's L'Orange who has everything to lose--and I hope he loses EVERYTHING. His lies and obfuscation are attempts to hide his seditious/traitorous legacy. He has provided a clear contrast for those who truly wish to see what a lover of liberty looks, acts, and thinks like.

I LOVE PRESIDENT BUSH AND HE HAS MY UNYIELDING SUPPORT IN HIS QUEST FOR LIBERTY ABROAD AND SECURITY FOR AMERICA. This president means more than a debate to me -- he won my vote and a place in my prayers long ago.

I'm in the Kerry-lost-long-ago camp. This debate sure didn't do anything to help him. You still can't get any two pundits to agree on what exactly Kerry's plan - that he spent the whole debate insisting he had - is.

Well, Bush should have made some sort of reference to Kerry's record in the Senate. He congratulated him on his 20 years in the Senate, which was a backhanded slap to me.

Number one, he said he would immediately open bilateral talks with the North Koreans.

This is one thing that has puzzled me. Can anyone explain why Kerry wants MORE international support with Iraq, Iran, etc, but LESS with North Korea? I've never felt right about the Dems stance on Korea, but I wasn't able to pinpoint exactly why until Kerry articulated this tonight.

I disagree with your criticism of constructive criticism. Conservatives have a high bar so they are not content with slip shod performances. I don't think Bush did well, hence the criticism.

Bush looked tired from campaigning and umm BEING PRESIDENT FOR THE LAST 4 YEARS.Kerry just sits up there and bashes him with winners like "i woulda, shoulda, could, done anything better than you can/could/would."

You nailed it! That is just what I was thinking while watching it. Lehrer was asking over and over in different ways "Has President Bush stopped beating his wife?". I think that is why President Bush looked so angry.

Talking down to people, as you did, is something liberals do routinely.

I do hope you are right on this that Bush will win the election.

So many new posters are also irritating as heck.

I have to agree with you on that one.

I watched the debate -- and only the debate -- on C-Span -- no talking heads to tell me how to judge what I was about to hear and/or what I had just heard.

If the American people believe that halting our production of nuclear and missile defense systems is going to keep us safe against crazed Islamists, and if they don't see the incredible hypocrisy of Kerry daring to mention his post-Vietnam activities as a qualification to be commander-in-chief, then Kerry won the debate.

I don't believe my fellow countrymen are that stupid.
