'Cheap sex' is making men give up on marriage
NY Post ^ | September 2, 2017 | Larry Getlan

Thanks to cheap sex, marriage may be doomed.

The share of Americans ages 25-34 who are married dropped 13 percentage points from 2000 to 2014. A new book by sociologist Mark Regnerus blames this declining rate on how easy it is for men to get off.

Regnerus calls it “cheap sex,” an economic term meant to describe sex that has very little cost in terms of time or emotional investment, giving it little value.

Regnerus bases his ideas, in part, on the work of British social theorist Anthony Giddens, who argued that the pill isolated sex from marriage and children. Add online pornography and dating sites to the mix and you don’t even need relationships.

The result is “two overlapping (but distinctive) markets, one for sex and one for marriage, with a rather large territory in between comprised of significant relationships of varying commitment and duration,” Regnerus writes in “Cheap Sex: The Transformation of Men, Marriage, and Monogamy” (Oxford University Press).

In generations past, women generally made men wait until marriage to have sex. To get a wife (and, therefore, sex), men had to be clean and presentable and have a good job. This, Regnerus reasons, gave men all the motivation they needed to become respectable members of society.

Now with porn on-demand and greater reproductive freedom, sex is a commodity available at any time. This has left men with little motivation for marriage, writes Regnerus, who cites demographer Steven Ruggles’ prediction that one of every three people in their 20s will never marry.

Not angry at women, angry at ex for cheapening vows made before God, creating a family together, and then taking off because she “needed to find herself and is a self-admitted materialists.

The hilarious part is the fact she "loves Jesus and Jesus loves her" because the more she sins, the more she is forgiven" theological clap-trap. Keep in mind she was military and broke up a marriage/family with another officer. She screwed some enlisted guy and married him to avoid a 134 fraternization and adultery.

I think about that every time my nine year old wakes up in the middle of the night crying for mommy and daddy.

Women's suffrage began at least as far back as the early 18th century in England - it is one of the pillars of the greatness of western civilization. Mary Wollstonecraft, Fanny Kemble, John Stuart Mill, etc. America gave us Susan B. Anthony - an abolitionist and anti-abortion activist.

That it devolved into decadence in the late 20th century and early 21st is typical of all great social movements but does not negate its storied achievements. (Much like the great civil rights movement of the mid-20th century.) Without it we'd be no better than muzzies.

One could reasonably argue that even without women’s sufferage we treated women better than Islamic culture does

Just saying

Women vote in most Islamic nations now

I’m ambivalent about women’s sufferage

It certainly worked better when most women were married

I think you personally should have multiple voting power

But alas where you live your vote is mostly symbolic

As is mine in the opposite way

The laws regarding marriage, property, children in the 19th century were horrific for women. Just a cursory glance at Ibsen's A Doll's House tells you everything you need to know. Better yet, a great production will send audiences into floods of tears and anger. That the laws have swung too far in the other direction is certainly true. But that's what happens in decadent, devolving societies...

Well, paradoxically, I don't think American women deserve the vote. Until we grow up politically, stop wearing pussy hats and watching The Rosie O'Donnell Show, we should be denied the right and privilege. I also think we have no place in the military. I'm no monument to consistency!

That does not surprise me at all. I remember going to college 25 years ago and at the time HPV was becoming prevalent. It was not even mentioned in my “cutting edge” sex ed class; but encouraging promiscuity was. I assumed it was un-PC but it is really, really bad advice.

My 2nd hubby-MrT5-was a prize-he never spoke badly of his 1st wife, even though it was a bitter end, and he was awarded full custody of the kids. He died untimely several years ago-my current guy-the LEO-was my fiancé in college, but we were young and stupid and screwed it up-we are both single again-so a few months ago, we decided to have another go at it and get it right this time-so far, so good-neither of us is inclined to get totally angry with the other-I have a Latin temper he respects and I respect that he gets paid for investigating evidence-he certainly wouldn’t leave any-I’d end up in an unmarked grave somewhere...

A couple of people who have never liked me warned my guy that he was going out with a black widow-2 deceased husbands, and did he want to be #3-he just laughed it off, God bless him...

I’m sorry that happened to you-my 1st marriage ended because of my husband’s infidelity, so I do understand. MrT5-my 2nd husband-ended his 1st marriage and got custody of the kids over his wife’s indiscretion too-he was in the military, but she had a high dollar job and never paid a dime of child support-he never pressed for it-he was just too proud to.

The laws regarding marriage, property, children in the 19th century were horrific for women.

Consider that perhaps they NEED to be, in order to keep women from following their urges to chase the "bad boy alpha male". At least marriage was more stable then.

Consider the black family. Is the average poor black child's family life better now then it was in the 1950's, before Uncle Sugar made it unnecessary for mothers to be married to the fathers of their kids?

>It is interesting that female church leaders are almost always pro-abortion and pro-gay.

It’s a step by step process. First people decide they’re more holy than Paul by ignoring:
1 Timothy 2:12–13, “But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. 13 For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve.”

And they place women in positions above men. Once done the next step is think they’re more holy than God and ignore his commandments entirely and celebrate sodomy and abortion. And then all you have left is Satan’s church filled with leftist evils.

Many women believe that they can spend a decade or more acting like trollops with bad boys from bars and then, decrepit and infertile, be treated as pure prizes worth winning by rich and respectable men.

Aint that the truth! Alpha f***s, beta bucks. Slutty behavior affects ones SMV. Our media, social, and educational culture falsely tells our women otherwise.

>A lot of those liberal women got helped out by a liberal men. It was liberal Christians who did great damage to a number of Christian churches.

Putting women in charge is a sign that the people in the church believe they are more holy than Paul:

1 Timothy 2:12–13, “But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. 13 For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve.”

Once they raise themselves above Paul then it’s not a lot of work to raise themselves above God and reject the rest of his commandments.

The headline is utterly, utterly false.

The breakdown of families is a direct result of the whole leftist ideology (socialism, abortion, genderism, infantilism etc.).

I understand that not every one is blessed in marriage; which is regrettable.

But sex in a good marriage is the gold standard. Believe it. No one would choose alternatives such as masturbation or prostitution if they had the opportunity (and emotional capabilities) for the real thing.
