The Civil War is about to loom very large in the popular memory. We would do well to be candid about its causes and not allow the distortions of contemporary politics or long-standing myths to cloud our understanding of why the nation fell apart.
The coming year will mark the 150th anniversary of the onset of the conflict, which is usually dated to April 12, 1861, when Confederate batteries opened fire at 4:30 a.m. on federal troops occupying Fort Sumter. Union forces surrendered the next day, after 34 hours of shelling.

Lemme tell ya somethin’, “boy”.....when a Confederate proclaims itself not an American first, I do have a problem with that.
That you don’t is a failure on your part.
You claim teamwork. A team is not comprised of those who separate themselves from the whole. A team is cohesive and indivisible. A team does not divide themselves and bitch about the “management” or find fault with the coaches.
A member of the team does not weaken the team by rooting for an opposing team.
You mention WWII, VietNam, Korea and other conflicts and wars. Those who served and serve are not the likes of Ole Tex. They are Americans.
As for your assertion that *I* am confused, the question to be answered is why are you incapable of comprehension.
Tend to your own shortcomings before lecturing me, “Boy”.
You must be a rump ranger yourself!? The way you accuse everyone of being homo......
OH! I get it...THUMP RANGER!....LOL!
Ole Benedict Tex, the only ones I referred to as candidates for a little spread of your own were you and cowgirl.
Not "everyone".
So, add reading comprehension to your list of shortcomings.
If central had been alive in 1864, he’d have been trying to get in as many rapes of female slaves as he could before the liberators burned down his little plantation of horrors.
I admire your stamina at post No. 619. You’ve been at this since this thread started. Remember? People were thinking maybe 500 posts. We’ve beat that.
Do you ever sleep? BTW, I found a southern hush puppy story. Allow me to tell it:
After work in the cane fields, black laborers would gather around an open fire with an iron pot suspended above. Into this pot were thrown fish and delectible corn pones, all cooked in fat. While the food cooked, the men told exciting stories of bear and panther hunts. The hunting dogs lay at the edge of the fire pit, waiting for scraps. At a break in the story-telling, the dogs would whimper for a treat. One of the workers would reach over and break off a piece of cooling corn pone for the dogs while whispering: Hush, puppy.
Maybe you’d like to repeal the 14th Amendment, as well.
What about someone who refers to fellow FReepers as homosexuals, a Federal Boot Licker, stupid Yankees, or one of the Republican Party's most revered and iconic representatives as "the Illinois Butcher"? What do you think of someone who refers to his country as a " Constitutional Dictatorship"?
How about someone who posts pictures as an intended insult to other FReepers?:
I'm just curious...
Yea...and you are obviously from the “swishy” side of PA!
Ask me if I care...Everybody on this forum has known for years that I am loyal to Texas first, and then the USA.
Better be careful who you accuse of being a traitor. I am a Navy Veteran, and don’t have to prove my loyalty.
No need to “prove your loyalty” when you’ve already disproved it.
Your words.
Live with them.
Eventually, fifth columnists will reveal themselves. Just give them the opportunities and watch them shine.
Is it just me, or does it seem like the damn civil war is about to break loose on a whole bunch of FR threads lately? Maybe it don’t mean nothing, or maybe folks are just getting all itchy, I don’t know.
“A team is cohesive and indivisible. “
Every word you’ve posted has been against a cohesion and teamwork. You are one bitter SOB.
“Is it just me, or does it seem like the damn civil war is about to break loose on a whole bunch of FR threads lately? “
I think you’re close. There’s a whole bunch of left wing agent provocateurs hanging around on FR that Jim hasn’t cleaned out yet.
I tried to resist, but I just couldn’t help myself:

You haven’t seen “bitter”.
I suppose you expect me to pat the Confederate Cultists on the head and tsk tsk their hate for my country.
The “team” I am loyal to is the United States. I don’t have time for sectarians or secessionists or those who would long for a segmented and disjointed nation.
It’s clear you have no issues with such desires.
And, for your information, “dave”, my late mother was not a bitch. Consider yourself fortunate that you can mouth off such insults from your cozy little shack in Michigan.
Please, "dave", take your best shot. While you're at it, why not lead an insurrection against those you are certain are "left-wing agent provocateurs". I'm sure you could get advice from the Klan on how to roust folks at 3 am for lynching or have some Talibani school you on the best configurations for IEDs.
dave is too close because those “left-wing agent provocateurs” he speaks of are also the posters he speaks to.
Yesterday we laid to rest a local son who was killed in Afghanistan eleven days ago. As I watched a US Marine Color Guard carry his remains to the grave site and viewed the US flags flapping in the stiff, cold wind, I thought of how he and they represented best this country that I love.
To read the Cultist denigrations of my country and what she exists for brings me nothing but anger and revulsion.
“1. I am speaking of society in general. 100 years ago, if you slept with a woman who was not your wife, it was considered intolerable, and both parties would have been ostracized. Yes, what is considered moral changes with society.”
In my community and the America I live, adultery is still considered intolerable and those who commit adultery are ostracized.
Perhaps attitudes are different in your part of Texas.
“2. Yes, what we consider moral now may not be considered so in the future, or vice-versa.”
In this and most Western nations, we have the Bible to help guide our moral values. And nowhere in the Bible have I found a passage that states that the morals set forth in the Bible can be eliminated over time.
