Does the Confederate Flag offend you? http://www.sodahead.com/question/537677/does-the-confederate-flag-offend-you/ I came across this question asked at SodaHead.com that has produced a lively discussion with over 2500 comments. I thought I would post it here at Free Republic and see if it gets a similiar response.

Mississippians could fight. Posey’s and Barksdale’s brigades come instantly to mind.

Then perhaps you are offended by the American flag. For slaves were bought and sold under that flag long before the Confederate flag.

I never even said I was offended by the confederate flag. I said it was a provocative flag. C'mon - anyone here can see that it is provocative. If it was provocative in some fashion these conversations would never happen.

That should have read WASN'T ... if it wasn't provocative we would never have conversations like this about it.

“I asked because I feel that it IS provocative to fly that flag. It was a battle standard for a confederacy that was conquored in war. A war that was - not entirely - in some measure waged over controversial issues like human and civil rights for all. It is & should be a provocative act to fly that flag.
-snip-

We should all do what we think is wise but we should be fully aware of what we are doing. =)”

Ohhhhhhhhhhh...a moral compass...goody...gee, you know ALL of your posts center on the moral compass motif of the left...

Should we also ban this flag since the Klan carried it?

Perhaps people shouldn’t be so sensitive.

Great-grandpa was in Barksdale’s brigade from Ball’s Bluff to Appomattox.

No - not of the left - but you are correct that almost all of my comments do revolve around what I think the moral thing to do is. It's almost as if I spent some time thinking about morality and the right thing to do during those 10 years that I spent as a monk... weird.

“If it was provocative in some fashion these conversations would never happen.”

And they wouldn’t happen if “conservatives” like you didn’t bring them in here...intentionally.

I can answer for myself. And I already did. I guess I can do it again. I'm not offended by the American flag. Or the confederate flag either for that matter.

Both Posey's Brigade and Barksdale's Brigade are featured in my alternate Civil War Novel: Throw Away the Scabbard.

They were fun to write about. I liked them very much.

Should have stayed there, Sparky...because your “moral thinking” is obviously nothing but cheap trouble making...and I don’t like it. Nothing weird about it except you are looking for trouble...monk boy...

Soooooo, you were just idly wondering what FReepers thought? It was an already resolved issue for you, but you wanted feedback...to what purpose?
