Free Republic Poll on Evolution
Free Republic ^ | 22 September 2006 | Vanity

Posted on 09/22/2006 2:09:33 PM PDT by PatrickHenry

Free Republic is currently running a poll on this subject:

Do you think creationism or intelligent design should be taught in science classes in secondary public schools as a competing scientific theory to evolution?
You can find the poll at the bottom of your "self search" page, also titled "My Comments," where you go to look for posts you've received.

I don't know what effect -- if any -- the poll will have on the future of this website's science threads. But it's certainly worth while to know the general attitude of the people who frequent this website.

Science isn't a democracy, and the value of scientific theories isn't something that's voted upon. The outcome of this poll won't have any scientific importance. But the poll is important because this is a political website. How we decide to educate our children is a very important issue. It's also important whether the political parties decide to take a position on this. (I don't think they should, but it may be happening anyway.)

If you have an opinion on this subject, go ahead and vote.

Pardon me, I am not talking about this thread as being the thread where editor-surveyor went into his beliefs about modern medicine...I was addressing his point about who looks foolish when his posts were out for all to see, and I was commenting on ES posts in the past, where he has told us how ineffective and useless modern medicine is...supposedly its all a money making scheme for the pharmaceutical industry, if I remember correctly...

Someone on this thread has direct links to the posts where ES makes these statements...

You have jumped the gun...no one, certainly not I, has ever said that those who oppose evolution, also dont believe in the efficacy of modern medicine..I would certainly hope that the opposite would be true...IDer, creationist, evolutionist, I would hope that most within these groups do take advantage of modern medicine and modern medical technology...

You have jumped the gun..your point is moot...

Exactly what evolutionary process has been observed that proves we evolved into living thinking beings from non-life.

TToE makes no such claim.

I thought we were having a pretty good run. It sucks to be caught.

Good thing we were able to bag almost our limit before the Warden showed up!

Latest Poll Results

Almost 300 more votes have come in. Prior FR polls typically receive around 6,000 votes before they're ended. This one now has 3,942 votes, almost two-thirds complete.

Up to now I've been ignoring un-registered voters because we know that freepers can only vote once. Also, the un-registered voters seem remarkably opinionated, because their rate of "undecided" or "pass" votes is about half that of freepers. But up to last night, the difference in decisiveness showed up almost entirely in their percentage of "Yes" votes.

That trend now seems to have reversed itself. What may have been freeping in one direction now seems to be going in the opposite direction. So it looks like this factor is canceling itself out as the votes keep piling up. At this point, looking at the composite vote (both freepers and non-freepers) seems the way to go. That's the figure that Jim puts up on your "My Comments" page, and it appears that despite my earlier skepticism, Jim knows just what he's doing. I should have known that.

Still, the important votes are from voters who have expressed an opinion on the poll question, so I'm ignoring all votes for "undecided" or "pass." Those with an opinion have voted as follows:

Yes (put creationism in science class) 2,291 votes
No (keep creationism out of science class) 1,304 votes
Total votes (excluding "undecided" or "pass") 3,595
Percentage voting "No" is 36.3%

I don't want you banned.

With you the ignorance never ends, therefore the comedy never ends, and therefore I laugh a lot, which is good for me.

So in essence, your ignorance, is healthy for me. LOL

"lets ask everyone if when they or a member of their family become ill, do they actually go to a medical doctor, actually get a prescription for medical drugs and actually trust that modern medicine will do its job, and retore a person to health?"

You may be onto something here, but let's just ask "Do the drugs that your doctor gives you cure your illness, or do you have to keep going back to get a useless prescription refilled time after time after time?"

And let's ask "Has anyone in your family gone to the doctor for an extended period of time and then ended up dying prematurely anyway?"

And let's ask "Do you care? If there is a better way, 'a more excellant way,' a way that doesn't shorten your life and leave you with debilitating side effects, would you prefer that way?"

"...or do they reject modern medical doctors and modern medical drugs in favor of your method(whatever that is)?..."

Sorry to disappoint you, but my way is eat real food, all the foods that the Lord intended for us to eat, and don't get sick in the first place. - And guess what? It works. If you don't eat pasta, bleached white bread, gobs of mashed potatoes, white rice, candy, and sodas, diet or regular, and don't cook your food in omega 6 oils, you won't waste your money on doctor bills, and you won't waste your time in bed.

A - E are monkeys and apes, F - L are hominids, i.e. a more advanced branch of the same line as chimps and gorillas than anything we have left, and the last two are humans. DNA studies say humans aren't related to the neanderthal and your pictures clearly show that all the others are further from us than the neanderthal was. We're not related to any of them.

False.

The placement of Neanderthal in this photo does not imply descent. Duh?!

And your statement that we are not related to any of them is unsupported. And contradicted by a tremendous amount of data.

Have you ever wandered the stacks of a major university library? Checked the journals dedicated mostly to the broad field of evolution? Those journals take up floors! (Actually, a lot of it is going on-line, as its cheaper to subscribe than build new floors.)

This is the data you are contradicting with your statements. Belief is great, but waving away floors of data makes you look rather ridiculous. (With that much waving, have you reached V1 yet?)

Editor-surveyor, don't mistake my point. A good diet and proper excercise are good things, I agree. No one says doctors are perfect, but modern medicine treats the wounded and cures illnesses. Modern medicine is a good thing.

In anti-evo-speak, "shrill, crazed, and relentless attacks" = presenting evidence that supports evolution and exposing unsupported anti-evo arguments as irrational and baseless.

There's an anti-evo that seems to think all of those skulls are fakes and frauds.

That would make a fun line in the chart. "A-fake [Yes, I know. That's the chimp!], B-fraud, C-fake, D-fraud ..."

Yes, modern medicine treats wounds, and usually quite well, but it never cures anyone of disease, NEVER!

It's specifically not the purpose of allopathy to cure, but to "maintain." That is why they ignore nutrition, and natural remedies; it's outside of their profession.

I stand behind what I have said. Modern medicine heals the wounded and cures disease.

Where, perhaps,

fake = a mostly ape skull with some human skull pieces glued on that no one else has noticed yet; and

fraud = a mostly human skull with some ape skull pieces glued on that no one else has noticed yet.

I personally dont know of anyone in my family who went to the doctor with an illness, received a prescription, and then had to go back time and time again...when my older boy got tonsillitis and had his throat cultured, and it came back a Strep infection, he received a Penicillin shot, and Penicillin meds...and within just a few days, he was much better, he finished the regimen of meds, and was fine...with that type of strep, without antibiotics, one runs the high risk of the bacteria going further into the body, and risks Rheumatic fever...my own cousin had this very thing happen to him, because his mom did not take him to the doctor for a strep infection...he wound up with a damaged heart...a result of not treating a dangerous strep infection...

No, I also dont know of anyone who went to a doctor for treatment and wound up dying prematurely...I am sure it probably does happen at one time or another, but I am willing to bet, its not the general course for most people who go to the doctor...

I dont consider ignoring modern medicine and modern medical technology, to be a more excellent way...not at all...I would never risk my childs health, and his life, by ignoring modern medicine and modern medical technology...

Now, that being said, there is nothing wrong with eating correctly, and taking vitamins and supplements as necessary...but those things are just not in any fashion, the ways to cure diseases, should one get a particualar disease...

I myself am remarkably healthy...Its probably been decades since I have had to see a doctor for any medical problem...I do see my GP once a year, and have a thorough battery of tests done once a year...but thats it...however, should I become sick, I would immediately see my doctor..

My younger son, as a small child, had the usual sniffles, and colds, and such, but other than having a small hernia, he has never had a thing wrong with him...he has never even had a single cavity...and hes 32....almost never sick, never had a cavity...but I know, should he ever get sick, he would go immediately to a doctor...

Good food, vitamins, supplements, and good modern medical meds, along with good modern medical technology is how I see the best way to insure good health...

I just dont see the majority of Freepers, deciding when their child is very ill, to keep that child away from the doctors...most people in the USA and most Freepers, I am willing to bet, use modern medicine and modern medical technology...

Or "fake" = "some thing that never lived but was jigsawed up out of bone flakes and pottery shards." "Fraud" = "some thing that lived but they call it a transitional and it's not it's just some extinct thing or other."

Thanks! Now, to clarify: Which ones specifically do you think are monkeys?

And are you saying that although F-L are hominids, the similarity to humans is purely coincidental? (As in convergent evolution?)
