Artest has great judgment huh? Long history there.

Hahahaa on the Piston fans on the court. They really showed those punk Pacers. Artest will get his second felony for clocking fat boy on the court. Blubber boy got balls tho. It was cool- that part

This whole incident is just road rage writ large. I can understand telling the players in private that it was understandable, but having any figure of authority, be it the teams, the NBA, or ESPN publicly stating that it's okay to attack someone, even if they have come into the filed of play, is crazy. They are inviting a repeat where someone gets killed.

What if one of the fans had a knife and really went Vibe Awards on Artest? What if a bow struck a fan and he broke his neck in the fall, or a young child got knocked off the edge of a row of seats and fell thirty feet? What if Artest wrongly attacked a fan who happened to have a black belt and he ducked from the blow, extended Artest's right arm, smashed into his elbow with a rigid palm, and snapped his arm? The whole thing is crazy. We gotta show some restraint and get over the culture of "disrespect".

One of the half-dozen people treated for injuries at The Palace was taken to a hospital by ambulance and another sought treatment, police said.

"At this time, we don't have any indication of major injuries, Mynsberge said.

Artest did not appear to land punches, but Jackson did. Jermaine O'Neal later struck a fan after he was hit in the head by a chair as chaos reigned at the Palace.

I guess if the injuries were pretty mild then the charges won't really amount to too much. In the end it looks like mostly a big scuffle --- a few punches and a lot of beer and chair throwing. If no one was seriously injured and only a few needed any treatment, maybe it looks way worse than it actually was. If a 290 pure muscle-man like Artest didn't land some puny guy in the hospital --- he was restraining his punches. Artest later punched a fan on the court who rushed at him and tried to land a blow.

Gets a nomination for a darwin award.

HAH! So true. The only thing that saved them was that by that point, there was so much beer on the floor everyone kept falling on their ass.

That didn't come out quite right. I would think that if no serious injuries resulted --- the players were just giving love-taps to the fans. The size of Artest alone could have him doing some real damage to the more petite fans who attacked him --- but if few and mild injuries were the only result --- then he didn't really violently go after anyone even though rushing at the into the stands looks dramatic.

Blubber boy just showed what a stupid moron he was. Artest may not have cleaned Blubber boy's clock had Blubber boy not raised his clenched fists like an idiot wanting to get decked.

Blubber butt IS a moron but Artest made his 3rd or 4th bad decision- and will get his 2nd felony for punching Butt boy first. Artest is gone, good riddance

I think they reasonably feared for their personal safety what with the bang up job security was doing.

They should have thought a little before they started going after the fans then, shouldn't they.

Or maybe the fan shouldn't have ordered that last beer he kept for throwing.

But this riot was about far more than Artest and the man who threw beer(and punched Artest in the back of his head)

It was about the person who threw the chair, the other who threw a bottle at a ref(what was the point in that? how can u blame that on Artest?) the morons who absolutely doused the Pacers and security with beer, food and other items, and the jackass who was punching Fred Jones, an attempted peacemaker, in the back of his head.

...NONE of which would have happened if Artest wouldn't have retaliated the way he did.

Was all of the other behavior you listed wrong? YES. It's tragic it couldn't have been avoided.

Wasn't Artest just laying there on the table smiling until some idiot pelted him with a beer? I don't see the justification for the idiot who did that.

Yes, I think we can say the fan's behavior and Artest's behavior was equally "professional."

Absolutely ridiculous. I don't know what's worse - the NHL or the NBA. Both one step above professional wrestling.
