How can you people think that NBA players are justified jumping into the stands and punching/attacking fans? Who gives a s*it if something was thrown at them. They get paid millions. NBA better set a real precdent here and suspend these loosers for the season.

There's a lot more than that too. Basketball, like any sport, has its share of guys who are jerks and those who either grew up, or were never troublemakers to begin with.

What's funny is that any of these had husbands that wouldn't punch a man who threw beer on him, they'd ditch him.

And somehow baseball or football get free passes for who is in the game.

The most prominent homicide investigations ALL INVOLVED NFLers, not NBA.

Meanwhile, the guy down the street is a Level 3 sex offender, 4 people at work steal from the company and their kid smokes pot and gets into trouble--but the NBA--THEY're the downfall of society!

Contrary to popular opinion(mostly by the envious) athletes are paid to play a game and take only a moderate level of verbal abuse.

They are not paid to take whatever indignity you thrust upon them, racial epithets, personal taunts or punches to the back of the head.

Also, you've never been part of a team apparently, because you're supposed to defend your teammate if he's getting attacked from people who had nothing to do with the incident.

If the fans hadn't escalated it, the matter would have been settled, but if you didn't notice Fred Jones was trying to do the right thing and was getting punched in the BACK OF HIS HEAD by a HUGE man.

These were the vote counters in Detroit I presume? Same guys who were reportedly filling out ballots after "interpreting" for whom voters intended to vote?

p.s. I have not watched basketball since Jorndan left and I never watched it before he entered the league.

You're not suggesting throwing things at the players is "OK", are you? Just because they are players they should expect this? Would you dream of walking up to someone and throwing a beer, or anything else for that matter, in their face and just expect them to sit there and do nothing?

Nonsense, you are not paid to take assault. This is not Michigan with the marshmallows, OK?

If you were on the street with your man, and someone threw beer on you at a bar or just on a corner, you'd be MAD if your husband/bf didn't do something about it.

Football players wear padding and helmets. ANd do you not remember when the Raiders went into the stands at Mile High when they had iceballs and batteries chucked at them?

How much is enough?

The brawl should have ended the second fans got involved. It is unacceptable for a player to go into the stands. The players are at fault primarily and the fans secondarily. Arrest them all for battery. Suspend the players for at least two weeks without pay.

I won't defend the fan who threw the cup. He's a jacka** and should be appropriately punished. However, Artest retaliated -- he was not defending himself. There is a very distinct difference, and there should and will be consequences for his retaliation.

About three hours following the startling finish, Auburn Hills police walked out of a television trailer with videotapes gathered from various media outlets.

Officers interviewed witnesses at the arena in suburban Detroit, and planned to talk to the players involved.

''We'll put it all together, take it to the Oakland County Prosecutors Office and have them review it and they'll decide if there are any charges,'' Auburn Hills Deputy Chief Jim Mynsberge said.

Of course, it's OK. You see some on this board apparently like to embrace leftist resentment and jealousy in the form of "they make lots of money so if you want to call their mother a C___ and throw batteries or cell phones at them(as happened to Carl Everett) go right ahead and they can't do a damn thing."Not only is that unjust but it's dangerous. There's a reason these things keep escalating--there's been no punishment for the fans or a real sense that there are lines you can't cross. OR if they're are, no one is enforcing them.

Sure, it's worse in many places around the world, but that doesn't mean anything to me, other than reassure me that it isn't as bad here YET.

Put it this way, throw a beer from 30 feet away at someone anywhere else in this country and see what they do...it's funny, the board makes fun of the weak liberals who watch crimes and injustice occur and don't do anything, but when someone does something about it, and goes back to the "old way" of handling things, he gets crucified and EVERY PERSON in the entire league gets called a gangster because they're black.

Yeah, Old fogey nostalgia really runs rampant in sports; and a lot of the comments about sports on threads, talk radio, just seem to be the same old cliches about everything going to hell in a handbasket.

LOL! Your telling me. You can tell some of these clowns have never sports pro or otherwise. I have seen more fights at AYSO (kids) soccer matches then in the NBA or NFL. Parents attacking coaches, and players. Players attacking eachother. Don't even get me started on little league.

But this riot was about far more than Artest and the man who threw beer(and punched Artest in the back of his head)

It was about the person who threw the chair, the other who threw a bottle at a ref(what was the point in that? how can u blame that on Artest?) the morons who absolutely doused the Pacers and security with beer, food and other items, and the jackass who was punching Fred Jones, an attempted peacemaker, in the back of his head.

Thugs and rapists?

Jesus, yeah let me guess where that wild blanket accusation comes from?

Let me ask you, on your little scorecard, do you count the false accusations(there've been many) against basketball or football players, or does the simple accusation trump truth?

"Last night was just nationally televised proof of what I've known Detroit sports fans to be like regularly. They are, by and large, every bit as vile/rude as Cleveland Browns fans."

Drunk fans are the same everywhere. I had Pistons season tickets in row 4 behind the visitors bench for years and never saw anything like this. The Pistons need to identify the fans involved in this and ban them for life. I also worked 3rd base camera for the Tigers for several years and was right in the middle of the fans behind the visitors dugout for scores of games... the fans were great... but occasionally you'll get one or two loudmouth drunks in a section of any stadium, and it makes it bad for everyone. You either ignore it, start a fight or get a cop in there which generally starts a fight... don't know what the answer is... go see the Detroit Symphony instead?
