And yet I love that footage of Mike Milbury (NHL) beating a fan with the fan's own shoe

ROFL! When was that? I didn't see it, but I can picture Milbury doing that.

I remember when a fan ran into the ice and charged the Sabres bench - Rob Ray took care of the situation.

See earlier post where I said he didn't deserve to have anything thrown on him.

Then why did you accuse him of "egging on" the fans?

Minor league hockey fights are still the best.

There's a great story behind that incident, too. I forget where I read this, but I believe everything here is factually correct . . .

Ray Flynn, the Boston mayor at the time, had never been to an NHL game before. A friend invited him to a Bruins game, and it just so happened to be the one at which that incident occurred. Flynn was utterly appalled at what he witnessed, mainly because he had heard of hockey's reputation for rough play -- and assumed that incidents like that one occurred at nearly every NHL game.

Soon after that, he tried to get the Boston city council to pass an ordinance requiring the Boston police to file assault charges against any athlete who was ejected from a game in Boston for some kind of misconduct on the field of play. I don't think his idea got anywhere. LOL.

>>Most of the players are just too big and strong; one good punch and its over.<<

BS. Hardly any of these idiots could actually hurt anyone with their punch.

Have you seen Shaq "fight"? There are 5-10 guys in this world I'd sooner fear.

He was egging on the fans. Again, that doesn't mean the fans have a right to respond. That also doesn't mean he has to turn into an animal and try to decapitate a fan.

I agree, the cup never should have been thrown, but artest was egging it on. Is it just me or does trouble follow artest wherever he goes???? And then to bust into the stands throwing punches, followed by steven jackson throwing punches. It only escalated everything. Like the fans are gonna stand there and take that crap. No one was right, but the pacers never should have gone into the stands. Jackson should get the biggest punishment followed by artest. Then wallace for the push that got everything going, although artest didn't need to make a hard foul late in a decided game.

I don't care how much the tickets cost. It doesn't give the fans the right to throw stuff at players.

I agree, I meant the other fans who got caught in the middle of this. I have no sympathy for the drunk who threw a beer.

I disagree. He was trying to stay out of the fight. I don't see how lying on the scorers' table was in any way egging on the fans.

There was another classic fan vs. player brawl at an NHL game a couple of years ago -- I believe in involved the Vancouver Canucks and either Edmonton or Calgary.

The fans behind one of the penalty boxes began throwing things over the glass at two players inside, and the players scaled the glass to get at them (skates and all). If it were only one player he probably would have made it without a problem, but under the weight of two players the entire sheet of glass toppled over into the stands -- trapping the culprits underneath like a couple of jack@sses underneath the surface of a frozen pond. LOL!!

he was egging on the fans and other players, go sit on the bench, don't lay on the scorers table like an idiot and make yourself a big target... Artest likes to start things but never backs it up, hes a punk.
