at least this would give us the opportunity to deport every illegal in every small town all across America. I say dump every one of em over the mexican border and tell them 'go THAT way'.

Don't worry--the terrorists might slaughter a few of our kids, but John Edwards is sure stem cell research will bring them back from the dead.
And if the stem cells don't work, he promises to "channel" them to you for a "small" legal fee.

Not exactly I stand by my statement. With no security, people are (or should be) more vigilant, considering the stakes. With a false sense of security, people tend to sit back and think "It couldn't happen again." And, as Israel has shown us with a contiguous border a heck of a lot shorter than ours, it can, again and again.
"Fortress America" doesn't work. But then again, neither is our current laissez-faire approach to securing the border good enough for me.

I'm very interested in finding out how to "seal" the border when it comes to our maritime borders. There are many thousands of miles of 'border' that there is no practical way yet to monitor.
That's not a good enough reason to keep some from making knee-jerk, illogical statements.

I find the timeing of this report suspicious. Very little time to substantiate it before the debate, and you know Kerry has a "plan" to protect the border. And good old Bob Schieffer is already planning to ask a question about illegal immigration. Almost sounds like a setup. It certainly does. But the most mind-numbing thing about this is that Bush did nothing about it. The best way to prevent this is to do something about it!!! And it would have energized guys like me, i.e., his base!!!
Are Bush and Rove only concerned about stealing Democrat ideas and passing them off as thier own?
I just wish Kennedy, Daschle, etc. would have tried passing a border security bill. Then Bush may have done something about it.

While your quip was funny, it failed to address my point.

But 9-11 changed everything ... NOT! We don't have a credible war on terrorism. Would you fight burglary by leaving your front and back doors open? I gots news for yah, churchmunch...
9/11 did in fact change everything. Our border patrol has been beefed up, even though there are those here on FR that like to bash the good people of the US Border Patrol, they are a good professional organization and they do a fine job with the resources they have.
The US Coast Guard also does a fine job, as does Customs.

These last few weeks it seems I keep asking myself the same question...how many democrat 'true believers' are there out there, as a percentage of the hard core dems.
Whats my definition of a true believer.....somebody who hopes for a catastrophic terrorist attack, preferably over the Mexican border, using WMD if possible....JUST so Kerry and the dems regain the White House and also congress.
Think about the implications of my question.

We've been griping about it and nothing has been done. When this gets publicised it won't do the President any good.

As I read this I also interpreted this as a mid-level type of warning. BUT then I got to the part about the backpacks. Anyone else catch this?
Chechen rebels (Islamic extremists linked to al-Qaeda) + al-Qaeda threats of a pre-election strike + Mark Dayton evacuating his family and staff from Washington + had backpacks + throw in the reports of missing Russian nuclear backpacks (read http://www.exodus2006.com/nukes.htm ) it takes on a whole new meaning!
I hope to hell I am wrong but I think John Kerrys nuisance is going to try to put one hell of a hurt on this country!
