SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A German shepherd fell out her owner's truck and stayed five weeks on the highway median near Sacramento for the owner to return. Officers received calls every day about the animal, but they weren't able to find her for over a month. Last Saturday, authorities were finally able catch the dog, who has since been nicknamed "Freeway Frida."

An Anaheim police K-9 that was shot in the line of duty more than two years ago has died. Bruno, who was shot by a probationer during a SWAT standoff in March 2014, died just before 6 a.m. Wednesday with his handler by his side, according to a post on the Friends of the Anaheim Police K9 Association's Facebook page. "It's with heavy hearts we announce the passing of K9 Bruno at approximately 0555 hours this morning," the post said.

While growing up, I read a constant litany explaining that Javelina's were not dangerous. I read, over and over, that all the old stories of them attacking humans were old wives tales, not documented, never happened. Over a dozen German shepherds, rescued from an abandoned house in Highland, California, are embarking on a new life with the help of a breed specific rescue agency. The German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County has been hard at work, pulling many of the homeless German shepherds out of the Devore Animal Shelter - on Tuesday, the founder of the organization updated Facebook followers about the rescue effort. German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County, an organization dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing purebred German Shepherds picked the dogs up from Devore Animal Shelter Friday morning.

More than 30 German shepherds and other large dogs were found abandoned at a home in a San Bernardino County community where neighbors reported "nonstop" barking and a horrible odor. The dogs, including two dead dogs, were found in a Highland home that was red-tagged by the County of San Bernardino Department of Public Health.

My sweet little Cashmere passed away today. She was only 9 1/2 years old. She had quit eating starting Friday so by Sunday I was panicking and took her to the emergency vet. She had lost quite a bit of weight already, due to polycystic kidney disease.
