This is one of those you can't believe it stories until you believe it. But the dog pictured above was part of a heartwarming rescue after what had to be a harrowing ordeal at sea.
This dog who fell off a fishing boat in the Pacific Ocean and had been "presumed dead" more than a month ago has now been found alive by Navy officials on an island 80 miles off the coast of San Diego, California.
The 1-year-old German Shepherd, named Luna, was first reported missing the morning of Feb. 10 about 2 miles off of San Clemente Island by her owner Nick Hayworth, a fisherman - according to Sandy DeMunnik, public affairs officer for the US Navys Naval Base Coronado. No one is taking ME FISHING LIKE THAT.
A two mile swim is not too unlikely....
Our Sheppard mix would follow my wife in her kayak across a lake. They are strong swimmers but should never be in a boat without a life vest.
Same goes for me. :-)
Though my seven year old is certain daddy is a floatation device there for abuse.
Didn’t see the life vest for the dog...
If the dog was malnourished when found, she may have tried to avoid human contact.
The dog actually went right up to the Navy people when she saw them.
