Periodic mass extinctions on Earth, as indicated in the global fossil record, could be linked to a suspected ninth planet, according to research published by a faculty member of the University of Arkansas Department of Mathematical Sciences. Daniel Whitmire, a retired professor of astrophysics now working as a math instructor, published findings in the January issue of Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society that the as yet undiscovered "Planet X" triggers comet showers linked to mass extinctions on Earth at intervals of approximately 27 million years. My sweet little Cashmere passed away today. She was only 9 1/2 years old. She had quit eating starting Friday so by Sunday I was panicking and took her to the emergency vet. She had lost quite a bit of weight already, due to polycystic kidney disease. The vet said we could only get maybe another couple weeks with her with treatment at the clinic, so we decided to end her suffering. She has about the sweetest cat I've ever had. Cautious, shy, the undercat among her brother and sister. I always had to protect her and make sure she...

Let's give the penguins a little credit. The news reported around the world was startling — that some 150,000 Adélie penguins have died in Antarctica because a colossal iceberg cut off their sea access. But there's no proof yet that the birds are dead. No one has actually found 150,000 frozen penguins. In fact, experts think there's a less horrific explanation for the missing birds: When the fishing gets tough, penguins simply pick up and move.

This 4-year-old German shepherd was found as a stray and brought to a shelter in Kentucky. But this week, "Quasi" made his way to Secondhand Hounds in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, where he will hopefully find his forever home. Ignore the thread link. It only goes to the FR Index page. Got some bad news today. JRandomFreeper has passed away, and that coupled with a good friend and neighbor suddenly passing away last October, I am in need of some relief for the depression this news has brought about. Hope it brings a smile here and there despite the tears. So: === Cats are better than women because:...
