Tammie Ashley still recalls the special request her son, U.S. Marine Sgt. Joshua Ashley, made to her during their last conversation.
Talking to her via Skype, Joshua Ashley told his mother he planned on adopting his military dog Sirius, a 4-year-old male German shepherd. He asked her to keep the canine until he completed his deployment in Afghanistan.

I lost a son three years ago and am now taking care of his dog for him. He is asleep by my side right now. I hope that this dog is as much of a comfort for this mother as Butch has been for me.
