Minnesota drivers will face a 1-in-88 chance of hitting a deer on the state’s highways this year, according to a report released Monday by the nation’s largest auto insurance company. State Farm’s annual report estimates that Minnesota drivers will collide with 37,549 deer in 2014. Minnesota drivers have the 8th highest odds of hitting a deer among the 50 states, according to the report, down from 6th highest in last year’s report.

Police are praising a brave man who intervened and saved a woman being viciously attacked by four dogs Sunday morning. The 54-year-old woman was walking her dog in an alley in the central Edmonton neighbourhood of Spruce Avenue, when she was surrounded by a pack of several medium to large-sized dogs. She was seriously injured and taken to hospital with multiple bite wounds to her legs, back and arms. Animal Care and Control seized the four dogs believed to have attacked the woman. The Reno Fire Chief tells CBS13 the plane fell apart in the air, as it was flying low through an obstacle course during the qualifying stage of the Reno National Air Race Championships. The plane quickly hit the ground, killing Lee Behel, 64 of San Jose, a man well-known in the air racing community.

The Phoenix area is recovering from record-setting rainfall Monday that led to flooding in several parts of the Valley, closing schools, stranding vehicles and snarling commutes. Both Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton and Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer declared states of emergency while other local public safety agencies cautioned residents to be safe and not drive unless absolutely necessary. Several schools closed across the region, including the Maricopa Community College District, which cancelled all classes today.

A 6-year-old boy is in the hospital after being attacked by a mountain lion Sunday afternoon on a hiking trail near a winery in Cupertino ... A game warden, Travis Jarrett, told NBC Bay Area the boy's parents had to fight off the mountain lion. "The cat did make contact with the boy, did end up taking him into a brushy area, his parents did fight the animal off," he said. "He suffered enough injuries to the point that he was needing immediate medical attention. He had to be immediately hospitalized."

Call it "Bambi" on the bridge. Reports of a pair of deer hanging out on the Golden Gate Bridge Friday evening sent social media abuzz in the Bay Area. California Highway Patrol officers were called to the bridge, but the deer were already gone by the time they got there. Twitter users reported that traffic stopped moving momentarily, but was soon flowing normally again. "It was Deer on the Golden Gate Bridge! Hope they are safe! A woman found a badly injured lion in the forest. She took it with her and nursed it back to health. When it was better, she made arrangements with a zoo to take the lion and give it a new and happy home.
