The shootings of a Brunswick mother and her 1-year-old son last week in which the boy was killed were random, Glynn County Police Chief Matt Doering said at a news conference Wednesday. De'Marquise Elkins, 17, and Dominique Lang, 15, were each indicted Wednesday on a count of first-degree murder in the killing of 13-month-old Antonio Santiago. Doering said it had been a judgment call about releasing the information that the location and victims of the shootings were random, but he said investigators are now comfortable in revealing that.

Less than five miles from the theater where a man with Down syndrome died at the hands of the law enforcement officials he idolized, a grand jury on Friday heard the details of the case and decided that no crime had been committed. “They felt no further investigation was necessary,” Frederick County State’s Attorney J. Charles Smith said at a news conference outside the county’s courthouse. rand jury proceedings are secretive in Maryland, but Smith said that his office presented the jury with 17 witness statements and that three deputies involved in the death — Lt. Scott Jewell, Sgt. Rich...

As Holy Week begins and we reflect on the passion of Jesus Christ, it is especially appropriate to remember another person who eight years ago at this time was subjected to a tortuous, brutal and heinous death – one whose anniversary falls this year on Easter Sunday: Terri Schindler-Schiavo. And just as the Church now ushers in our new Pope Francis, I am reminded how two days after Terri’s death we also lost our Holy Father. As Pope John Paul II lay dying at the Vatican his aides would later tell the Schindlers that when he learned of Terri’s death,...

Why are no conservative NRA members involved in mass shootings? Ft Hood Shooter: Registered Democrat and Muslim. Brunswick, Georgia (CNN) -- The fatal shooting of a 13-month-old boy in his stroller marked the second time mother Sherry West lost a son to violence, she said Saturday. Her 18-year-old son was stabbed to death in 2008 in New Jersey, she told CNN. "This is the second child that people have taken from me in a tragic way," West said. "I'm so afraid to have any more babies now. I tried to raise really good kids in a wicked world."

FORT HUACHUCA — Army Capt. Christopher Seifert was in his mid-20s and the father of a son, who was born about four months before a fellow soldier killed Seifart and Air Force Maj. Gregory L. Stone on March 23, 2003, at Camp Pennsylvania in Kuwait. Friday, a day before the 10-year anniversary of Seifert’s death, he was remembered on this southern Arizona Army post — the home of the Intelligence Center — in front of a building named after him on the fort where he received his intelligence training. Although he never had the opportunity to cross the berm into...

I guess we should give Kermit Gosnell’s lawyer, Jack McMahon, a bit of leeway. It can’t be easy having to defend the man responsible for such atrocities. The defense strategy that McMahon has chosen to play, however, is not only laughable, but also insulting. Gosnell and his defense team have chosen to play the race card.

Police are going door-to-door in a coastal Georgia town in a frantic search for two young suspects after a gunman shot an infant dead in the stroller his mother was pushing. Officer Todd Rhodes of the Brunswick Police Department told FoxNews.com that numerous tips had been received in connection to the Thursday morning shooting, but no suspect or weapon had yet been located, police said Friday. Investigators were also checking school attendance records for leads. Several nearby residents called 911 after hearing gunshots fired, but Rhodes said investigators believe the mother was the only witness to what happened. "Understand this:...

DENVER — Investigators looking into the shooting death of the director of the Colorado Department of Corrections will look at the possibility that Tom Clements’ murder may be tied to the recent decision not to grant a transfer of a Saudi man in a Colorado prison. Homaidan Al-Turki was convicted in 2006 of unlawful sexual contact by use of force and other charges. Prosecutors said he sexually assaulted a housekeeper and kept her as a virtual slave for four years. His conviction angered Saudi officials. The U.S. State Department sent Colorado Attorney General John Suthers to Saudi Arabia to meet...

PONTIAC, Mich. (AP) — Calling her mother a "monster," Jennifer Hoffman said the 75-year-old woman deserves to be in prison for fatally shooting her teen son and strongly refuted the image painted of the boy during the Detroit-area grandmother's trial. Sandra Layne, of West Bloomfield Township, was found guilty Tuesday of second-degree murder in death of her 17-year-old grandson Jonathan Hoffman last May 18. Jennifer Hoffman and her ex-husband, Michael Hoffman, said the verdict is "vindication" for their son whose actions and lifestyle were called into question through Layne's testimony. Layne said she bought a gun because she feared the...

A 1990 Los Angeles murder was solved using DNA from a suspect who was killed in a separate crime. Luis Herrera was strangled in L.A. and his body was dumped in Venice on Sept. 8, 1990. A Torrance Police detective reviewing Torrance cases in 2012 involving DNA samples matched Kevin Kemp's DNA to the Herrera murder. Kemp was killed in 1990 when he tried to kidnap a Torrance woman outside her home in the early morning. Kemp placed a canvas strap around the woman's neck. The woman took a handgun from her purse and fatally shot Kemp.
