CHICAGO — U.S. Sen. Mitt Romney on Tuesday accused fellow Republicans of fomenting political division by perpetuating the myth that massive voter fraud denied Donald Trump reelection, and said unity will be difficult to achieve without acknowledging Democratic President Joe Biden won a fair contest. Romney, in a livestreamed interview with Minnesota Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar on behalf of the Economic Club of Chicago, also said he shared hopes that the Jan. 6 uprising at the Capitol might lead to more bipartisanship but said there’s been no sign of any change in rhetoric.

I were an Indigenous Person, Morman, or other protected class of persons living in Utah, Oklahoma, etc. subjected to historic government discriminatory practices if my vote was diluted by some POS fraudster in Philly or Detroit that had their vote permitted with no meaningful scrutiny or verification process. This is more than just be angry like everyday Americans as a general matter. This is a legitimate constitutional question that is a product of a disparate impact discrimination practice. Their voices had been silenced exactly like it was 100 years ago

BURNS, Ore. — Ammon Bundy's goal is to reverse transactions that moved control of lands from ranchers to the federal government. What's unclear: Exactly how he intends to do that as he occupies for the third day the headquarters of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge south of Burns in southeastern Oregon with a self-styled militia group of supporters. An Oregon sheriff on Monday called the effort an "armed occupation" and told the group to go home.

  • Mormon Church Admits Founder Joseph Smith ... Married a 14-year-old (Truncated Title)

The Mormon church has admitted that its founder was a polygamist who married a 14-year-old girl, breaking a lengthy silence about its history. Joseph Smith, who wrote the Book of Mormon and established the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is thought to have married as many as 50 women, but for years the senior church officials did not address the subject. But this week the organization acknowledged that the practice took place, and named Helen Mar Kimball, 'who was sealed to Joseph several months before her 15th birthday.' Estimates have placed the total number of Smith's wives between...

In the days before the Values Voter Summit in Washington, aides to Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney grew concerned about a speaker scheduled to appear shortly after Romney's speech on Saturday morning. Before such events, campaign aides routinely check who will be speaking before and after Romney; it's normal due diligence to know if there are any speakers who might be sources of controversy. [snip] That's when what had begun as an issue of concern over a variety of intolerant remarks turned into a Mormon issue. Seeing Jeffress' words, Bennett decided to include a passage in his speech addressing the...

COALVILLE, Utah — Jacqueline Smith fits no one’s stereotype of a political kingmaker. A home-schooling Mormon mother of five, Ms. Smith lives in a modest ranch-style house here in the mountains outside Salt Lake City with her husband, Cleve, a plumbing contractor. But in the muscular arena of Tea Party and so-called Sept. 12 groups that have surged into dominance in Utah over the last year, places like Coalville and the Smith house have become unlikely stations for politicians to come kiss the ring. Senator Orrin G. Hatch, a six-term Republican who faces re-election next year, has been among Ms....

We are earnestly seeking to explode the vicious principles of Joseph Smith, and those who practice the same abominations and whoredoms; which we verily know are not accordant and consonant with the principles of Jesus Christ and the Apostles; and for that purpose, and with that end in view, with an eye single to the glory of God, we have dared to gird on the armor, and with god at our head, we most solemnly and sincerely declare that the sword of truth shall not depart from the thigh, nor the buckler from the arm, until we can enjoy...

Is the Mormon God the Christian God? The most important question to be asked when evaluating Robinson’s arguments for recognizing Mormonism as Christian is, “Is the God of Mormonism the God of Christianity?” If the Mormon God is not the Christian God then there can be no thought of understanding Mormonism as Christian. Robinson readily admits that much of what Mormonism teaches about God cannot be found in the Bible. He insists, however, that this does not mean that the Mormon God is not the biblical God, only that LDS modern revelation has explicated some areas concerning God on which...

A lively but peaceful crowd of about 150 gathered yesterday outside the tall white gates of the Mormon temple in University City to protest the passage of Proposition 8, which banned same-sex marriage. The passage has been credited in part to a coalition of Mormons, Roman Catholics and evangelical Christians that poured tens of millions of dollars into the campaign. ... 'Isi Mataele, 33, a schoolteacher and member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was there to clean up any trash left behind. There wasn't much, if any, and Mataele talked with protesters. Police watched as about...

Child welfare officials are scrambling to find foster homes for dozens of girls removed from a secretive West Texas religious retreat built by polygamist leader Warren Jeffs after a 16-year-old living there complained of physical abuse. Officials from Texas Child Protective Services, escorted by state troopers, took 52 girls, ages 6 months to 17 years, from the remote retreat on Friday afternoon. By the end of the day, 18 were put legally into state custody, and CPS spokeswoman Marleigh Meisner said interviews would continue Saturday. A warrant has been issued for at least one individual. The girls put in state...

Does it matter that Mitt Romney is a Mormon? To some extent--but it shouldn't. Since 1960, when John F. Kennedy settled the issue of whether a Catholic could be president, there's been general public agreement a candidate's religion shouldn't matter.

You know you're in for a grand odyssey when you embark on "Angels in America." The epic six-hour flight is composed of two parts, the first showing on HBO at 8 p.m. Sunday and the second set for Dec. 14. The first view is intoxicating. You sail above cotton-candy clouds drifting over San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge; it feels like heaven, until the clouds clear and we're staring down at the gray Mormon Temple in Salt Lake City. We cruise next past the Gateway Arch in St. Louis and end up in New York City, where we meet the five...
