In the days before the Values Voter Summit in Washington, aides to Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney grew concerned about a speaker scheduled to appear shortly after Romney's speech on Saturday morning. Before such events, campaign aides routinely check who will be speaking before and after Romney; it's normal due diligence to know if there are any speakers who might be sources of controversy.

That's when what had begun as an issue of concern over a variety of intolerant remarks turned into a Mormon issue. Seeing Jeffress' words, Bennett decided to include a passage in his speech addressing the question of bigotry and intolerance. Bennett quoted George Washington's admonition to "despise all forms of racial and religious bigotry," and then offered the crowd an admonition of his own:
Do not give voice to bigotry. Do not give voice to bigotry. I would say to Pastor Jeffress: You stepped on and obscured the words of Perry and Santorum and Cain and Bachmann and everyone else who has spoken here. You did Rick Perry no good, sir, in what you had to say.
Then it was Romney's turn to speak. In a speech that did not touch specifically on religious issues, Romney offered another condemnation. Saying Americans "must continue to welcome faith into the public square and allow it to flourish," Romney added:

Romney's remarks left many in the crowd confused. Who was the speaker who would follow Romney? Some in the crowd didn't know about the Jeffress matter, so they were totally bewildered. Others knew about Jeffress and wondered whether Jeffress would be speaking again. Only a few knew that Romney was talking about Bryan Fischer. And none knew that Romney would have included that line even if Robert Jeffress had never said a word about Mormonism.

Top Romney Flip Flops:
On Abortion, in October 2002, campaigning for governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney said he would “preserve and protect” a woman’s right to choose. He now describes himself as an abortion opponent.
On Gay rights, in a 1994 letter to the Log Cabin Republicans, who advocate gay rights, he said he was in favor of “gays and lesbians being able to serve openly and honestly” in the military. He now says it would be a mistake to interfere with the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy.
On Gun control, campaigning for the Senate in 1994, he said he favored strong gun laws and did not “line up with the NRA.” He joined the National Rifle Association in 2006 while pondering a presidential run, and he praised the group for “doing good things” and “supporting the right to bear arms.”
On campaign finance, in 1994, he advocated a spending limit on congressional elections and the abolition of political action committees. In 2002, he supported public financing of campaigns from a 10 percent tax on private fundraising. Now he says the McCain-Feingold law limiting campaign contributions is an attack on free speech.
On Immigration, in a November 2005 interview with the Boston Globe, he described an immigration overhaul advanced by John McCain as “reasonable.” He now denounces it as an “amnesty plan.” In December 2006, he signed an agreement authorizing state troopers to round up illegal immigrants.
We can’t allow Romney to be the nominee!
Then we need to (imho) get behind the man who can beat him, Gov. Rick Perry.
You need to read the entire piece for clarity.

I’ll say; because this is so confusing, I didn’t have a clue what this is all about.
Just another look at Mitt Romney and how he operates.
A Essay on Mitt Romney. Its damning.
I appreciate the basis of this comment, BUT --- as Rodney Dangerfield said, when asked "How's your wife?" --> "Compared to what?"
Romney is not a greater danger to the republic than Obama.
I am NOT saying Romney is "the man with the plan", BUT no matter who wins the GOP nomination... it HAS to be anyone but Obama in 2012.
Romney reminds me of a quote:
‘He is like a pillow - which is shaped by the last impression made on it’
my post # 14 was a response to your comments;)
FUMR! Lying ,leftist scumbag. If he is the nominee, either 3rd party or just leaving the presidential option blank will be my only choice. No way will I support him.
Not that I would ever vote for a mormon cultist either.
Who’s your candidate so I can assess their “smarts”
IF you'd rather NOT be pinged FReepmail me.
IF you'd like to be added FReepmail me. Thanks.

I have no particular affection for Perry - I prefer Cain (for now!), and so far as I can see, Perry suffers from the Bush disease of inability to articulate beliefs in public.
But the sign is a cheapshot.
We know one thing for sure - it was *not* God who put up the letters that said to Gov. Perry “God here” (and all the rest). And although we can be pretty comfortable in our skepticism, we don’t know for sure the source of the “voice in [Perry’s] head” - if in fact Perry’s ever claimed to hear such a voice (which I doubt).
Liberal jerk-offs, clerical or not, always try to knock those in political office with some semblance of religious convictions. Thus we get an idiot like Obama, and I’ve had my fill of it.
I am no Romney fan for sure, but let’s face it; the guy is a helluva lot smarter that Rick Perry. We also have some “smart” Conservatives: Newt Gingrich is brilliant (just has baggage.) Herman Cain is certainly no dummy and Rick Santorum is very smart; just doesn’t get the coverage.
